i just bought the a8jp not to long ago and reformated the computer. i also installed the soundmax drivers with the asus driver cd, but my notebook sometimes does not recognize my sound. the volume speaker is not in the system tray icon. it seems to happen randomly. if i reboot it, it lll come back. can someone please tell me how to fix this? is this a driver/software problem or hardware problem? thanks

also, when i try to play an mp3, media player will give me the error message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

try going to realtek directly and download the hd driver package. It happens randomly so that can point to something other then driver issue

i called asus and they told me to reinstall the uaa and sound drivers, which i did, but it still happens. they said they ll give me a RMA for repair. what's weird is that when i first turn it on, the asus chime ALWAYS goes off, but when it gets to xp, no sound. i really dont want to send it in because i still need it for school. should i try reinstalling windows xp? please help.

That happen to me. So far my only fix has been to revert back a week or so with the recovery in windows and it works. I have XP.

I do use headphones is my only sound add on and I though that might be it but I'm not sure I can't recreate it at this point.
