Has anyone figured out a way to manually control the fans?

I'm waiting (im)patiently for this as well.

I dont think you will find a way to manually control them without a man made hack because asus would probably think somebody will fry a system by turning them down too low.
-
-.- like anyone wants to turn the fans down on the c90
-
-
Software definately the easier route, but im thinking of hardware modding.
Turbo engine was definately a selling point for me - but irreleVENT now.
Any other ideas? -

a hardware mod would be easy, solder a pent into parallel with a higher voltage source so you can just dial in more power to the fans when you want it. It will still be connected to the mobo so the speeds will be there, there are pents small enough to put right there on the back of the machine and close the case perfectly.

if it needed higher rpm, then yes. but it already takes off like a 747 jet
with TAT running 100% cpu stress test... kind of scary first time firing the fans up full speed!
I looked at the wiring closer and they are wired as 1 gpu and 3 cpu. Will try the mod once detailed manual temp tests are done. -

I also couldn't get that program to work on a C90, it just started the setup and sat on a blue screen, while the cpu was working at about 50%.

Total fan control is best, but if nothing else at least support added rpms under "normal" mode.

I decided NOT to complicate things further, no hardware modding...

Hey guy's, I've got a question (or three) that's been bothering me since I've opened up my C90S. So here goes nothing. Banzai!
In the picture bellow, you see the naked parts of the C90S. You can click the picture to get the full size version.
What has been bothering me, is that on the GenTech website, in the assemby guide on any page really, but specifically page 7, there is a fan near the RAM; whereas, as you can see in the picture I took of mine, there is clearly a silver colored heatsink...... WTF? What's up with that? Does anyone have any explanation for this farce?
Also as you'll see from my explanation in the pictures above AND below; there are a couple of unused "terminals" that are located (above picture) to the top right of the picture. Technically right where the bluetooth card is. One large terminal and one small terminal. The picture below clearly shows these terminals, one small (to the left) and one large (top of picture). I have no idea what they are for. Does anyone know? I also don't know what that last wire is for. Again, anyone?
Thanks for any help that I can get here. -
I ordered my c90 and using it for a few weeks. Haven't been able to get answers
whether other c90s are different other than bios changes for better cooling...
Mine also has a heatsink by the ram and no fan.
However, when I put one (60mm by 10mm) case fan
under the main intake vent + raised the laptop above the desk
internal temps dropped significantly. -
Aha! Here are some links:

If you look at the article from NBR (4-5-07) it shows 2 smaller vents and intake fan next to the ram.
The design did change. -
Are you just not able to open pdf files on the computer your using right now?
If you know you can, go to this link. Scroll down a little until right after the picture that GenTech has up of the C90S, there is a link to open the file that I posted here.
I see so far that yours is the same as mine, but we ordered almost at the same time. I'm trying to find when they changed the design and the overall power schematics, because that fan that is in the pictures on the pdf file, would most likely make us BSOD now. I'm just curious. I see you also have the open terminals.... odd.
I'll take a look at those links that you posted now.
EDIT: In that first link, they also have those 2 terminals occupied with something. One is physical hardware of some kind and the other is basically a wire with an adapter plugged into it..... And in the second link only the smaller of the 2 termials is occupied..... Very very curious now. -
EightBall,
The "terminal" you are referring to in your 2nd picture is a Mini PCI-E slot. I have my wifi card plugged into that slot as we speak. There are two, I believe, because one is for the wifi card and the other is for the TV-Tuner which hasn't been released yet.
The other antenna wire is also for the TV-Tuner. If you follow it up you will notice it runs to the TV antenna jack right under the express card slot.
I might be misunderstanding what you are referring to, so if you already knew that don't take offense : ) -
ok, the pdf worked this time for whatever reason... I mainly use foxit (free, faster, smaller) but also have adobe reader since one of my online classes Requires it!
I see the fan you were talking about, but they should have left one in the design when the intake was made bigger. -
uhmm, they put some cooling paste between the 2 silver plates on the gpu. Uhmm I guess that is worth a couple of degree down on the gpu
However the one Im using can not be use with aluminun but just copper
and other alloys
-
can you post a pic of this?
-
Anyway's, thanks for the info. You answered exactly what I wanted to know.
RGS, are you talking about the silver heatsink? Or something completely different like the actual heat disipating plate that goes directly over the GPU?
See if you can get a pic up of what your talking about. It'll help alot. -
-
this forum is turning into an episode of jerry springer...
anyway!
still waiting for RGS to post pics, I will check my gpu as well. -
Maybe a bit late but.... I tried it, and it INCREASEd my temps dramatically (105C after 2 minutes of 3dmark)
