So how much faster is the G51j compared to the G51vx-a1 in performance?

    http://www.itechnews.net/2009/09/28/asus-g60j-and-m60j-notebooks-get-core-i7-qm/

There is no actual picture of the G51J but I think the design would be the same. As for the article, I sincerely hope the G60J isn't limited to 1366x768, while the G51J has 1920x1200. That seems sketchy, but that's the design.

    -----

EDIT: I don't know firsthand, but the i7, in theory, should make it MUCH faster on the processing end. (which in all fairness is anything that has to do with the computer at all) All I can speculate is that CPU-heavy games like RTS's and GTA4 will run better, at least better than the base BB model I'm getting with the P7350.

I wouldn't be able to compare performance between the quad G51V and the i7 G51J.

P.S., Ken, The G2S I bought from you guys finally died, haha. Not your fault, just that I kinda had it coming for a while now.

Most games are GPU limited so the i7 will make little to no difference. Like the guy above mentioned, a few games like RTS, GTAIV, Far Cry 2 and Crysis will benefit but overall it won't be much of a difference, especially at 1080p.

Okay now I have a question. I won't automatically assume the G51J will look exactly the same as the G60J, but in the pictures we have seen of the G60J we can see that the side lights which are normally present in G-series models are absent. Can you confirm whether there will be side lights with the G51J?

That must be the video card unfortunately.

I assume G51J will not have side lights either, first they took out OLED and now the side lights.

Haha, Ken, I know. Those 8600M GT's were bad news from the start.

Let me make a plug for GenTechPC right now. It's a great place to get ASUS things online! :)

Anyway, the i7 won't make much of a difference if you already have a quad-core CPU, so consequently, you won't see much of a difference upgrading from a dual-core to an i7 over to a current-gen quad-core. Unless you play RTS's, GTA, Far Cry 2, etc.

What I'm trying to say is, if you're contemplating a quad-core G51/G60, you're not missing much. And if you're getting a dual-core, you already sorta know what you're missing, or not.
