has anyone experienced any problem with the
headphone jack and hearing any type of interference / high pitch noise through it especially while running on battery power.

I have heard someone else complaining about this.

This is what I suggested but it didn't seem to help, but it is worth a shot.

Double click on that Speaker Icon in the system tray, and you will see the CD Volume and mute it, then test your headphone jack.

Is this a somewhat common occurence on the g1 or was this an isolated case that you heard.

I don't hear any high pitched noises on my G1.

Same. Did you test with other headphones?
