hi everybody, i bought this lovely laptop in august 2008 for the main purpose of feeding my World of Warcraft addiction. The game receved numerous upgrades and the requirements got higher and higher ... sadly now in 25 men raids im experiencing 5-10 fps (this with all settings on low).
Id like to ask more experienced users if there is any way to upgrade this laptop as i dont have the money to buy a new machine ... is it possible to put 2x 4GB units in? improve cpu, video etc ... all help is very welcomed and apreciated.
(btw if i use the turbo extreme setting from the direct console i get a BSOD after 5-10min.)
here are the specs of the laptop for many some who dont know them:
* Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 (2.53GHz/6MB L2/1066MHz FSB/ 35W TDP)
* Windows 7 <--- vista comes with the stock version
* Intel PM45 + ICH9 chipset
* 4GB DDR2-800 RAM
* 15.4-inch WSXGA+ (1680x1050) glossy display
* Nvidia GeForce 9700M-GT w/ 512MB GDDR3
* 2x 250GB 5400RPM SATA hard drives <--- 1 got fried so i had a new hitachi put in, as i understood the RAID doesnt work now.
* 8X DVDRW Super Multi drive
* 8-in-1 card reader
* Built-in 1.3-megapixel camera
* Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100AGN + built-in Bluetooth wireless

I don't play WoW, but it's not that killer of a game, so you should be able to play quite well at decent settings. Maybe there are other problems here, such as resource-draining software. Another thing to consider is your cooling, whether your vents are clogged with dust, as the BSOD with overclocking might suggest that.
In terms of upgrades, I think you are somewhat limited. You can do a CPU upgrade, but I'm not sure if the extreme editions or quad cores are hardware and BIOS compatible. I believe you can upgrade to 8GB of RAM, there were posts on this forum somewhere. You can't replace the video card, but it can be overclocked.
Try turning down the resolution, it might make things playable for the moment. 5-10 fps is not good for raids unless you are a priest. -
Well i think the easiest upgrade would be the ram, but then i have a hunch im limited to a certain model or something... Could u pls give me more info on wich type of ram i should get? Im also thinking of getting a cooling pad and removing the plastic cover...
