I've had my asus g50vm-x1 since September and I'm not into vista's performance as of late. My question is, after I use nlite to integrate my raid driver, do I just use my burned nlite cd to install xp? No need for my original xp cd besides the cd key?
-
That's correct.
-
I run into the bsod while trying to reformat, Im not sure what I'm doing wrong. Im running this in enhanced mode and changd up my booting priority so it can run to the cd first also. any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
-
I just realized i posted this in the wrong section :x
-
If you got BSOD after the XP disk is loaded and try to format the hard drive then it's probably the SATA driver is not integrate properly using nLite. -
it was the second one, I got it working now, thank you for the advice
-
Edit: nevermind, I had not refreshed the thread before posting.
So just to check:
slipstream SATA drivers onto original XP CD, creating ISO image
burn ISO image to disk
go to BIOS, set SATA mode to "Enhanced"
boot from CD to install Windows.
Right? -
Everything works fine now, besides one thing... I cant find the ethernet controller drivers, I downloaded the link from kens thread. instructions were to unzip the folder and click setup.exe, the link for the realtek lan driver doesnt come with a .exe file?
-
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UWX15ZQ2
I've uploaded the lan driver on megaupload and i'm pretty sure this has an .exe file. -
When I try to unzip the file onto my asus laptop, I get an error message that says, The compressed folder is invalid or corrupted
-
I unzipped the LAN folder on my other laptop and transferred it to my asus laptop, I ran the setup.exe but it wouldn't run properly. :[
-
-
It did the same thing in safe mode, when i double click the setup.exe i get this black box that opens quickly than closes itself, any ideas what it is?
-
try right click on the exe file and select run as administrator
-
I suggest redownloading the file, it's possible the download got corrupted.
-
I downloaded from realtek and that link, both gives me the same message. I also tried running it as an adminastrator. doesnt help.. Should I go back to vista and try to reinstall xp again?
-
Rather than fully installing Windows again I would search for an easier solution, at least at first. Maybe a different driver version?
You mentioned a driver with no "setup.exe" file, why not use that one, unpack it, then right click on the Wired Ethernet device in device manager, Update driver, Have Disk and point to the place where you unpacked the driver? -
I've done that it didn't work eigther, I think I know what I did wrong E.B.E. I believe I slipstreamed my raid drivers wrong. I can't run in enhanced or raid mode or ill get BSOD. Since this happened, should I re install vista and start my process over? Or should I just delete the old partition and try running the iso cd again?
-
You do not need to install Vista and THEN XP again, you simply need to reinstall Windows XP, and before reinstalling be sure to wipe the partition where it is currently installed.
But SATA Ehanced mode or not -- this has nothing to do with the Ethernet driver. There is another problem at work there. -
Im in the process of wiping my os and reinstalling xp again. Ill update my process about the ethernet controller when I can. I appreciate for the help by the way!
-
1. Went to BIOS set to compatabile mode
2. used the original xp cd to delete partition
3. reboot and change bios settings to enhanced mode
4. run iso cd
If I did this right, I should have a smooth xp install shouldn't I? -
Yes, that procedure should do it.
-
Im not sure what I'm doing wrong with nlite, cause my iso cd will get bsod.. The only option I used was integrate drivers
1. integrate single driver>iastor>make iso image
2.use nero to burn the iso image
Am I doing something wrong in the process? -
I do not remember the details, but I used the guide here:
http://www.digitgeek.com/how-to-slipstream-sata-drivers-into-xp-cd/
and it worked without any issues. -
That was the exact procedure I did, but I still get bsod for some reason. Im able to install xp with my original xp cd though, with no problems at all. I would have to run my bios in compatabile mode though.
-
What service pack does your XP disk have?
-
xp home service pack 2
-
This is very odd. Have you tried creating the ISO disk with a slower write speed?
-
I havent, should I try the slowest speed? haha, I was doing it on 8x
-
I would try it at either 2x or 4x.
-
The bigger problem I have is that I can't install my ethernet controllers, Any ideas David?
-
-
I have all the drivers and everythings working now, woot!
-
-
Im not sure about the installing part, but I also googled a site that gave me the ethernet controller drivers needed
