I have a question regarding the Drivers & Utility CD that came with this laptop. I just want to know what applications you need to install and not to install after you did a clean windows vista installation? cuz there are so many applications that i don't know what they do. i just don't want to install a bunch of useless bloatware. here is the list of the applications excluding the drivers software. just recommend applications and optional applications.

NB SW Kit - i have no idea what this is
AGFNEX - ATK Generic Function Service - ?
    ATK Hotkey - ?
    ATK OSD2 - ?
    Asus Wireless Console2 - ?
    Virtual Camera -
ADSM - Asus Data Security Manager Ulitity - is this important?
    Live Update - ?
BIOS Flash Utility - is this important?
    ATK Media - ?
    LifeFrame3 - ?
    Mult - ?
    CopyProtect - ?
    NB Probe Utility - ?
Power4 Gear Extreme - there is an instant button for this but do you really need it?
    Smartlogon - ?
    Splendid - ?
Direct Console 2 - Well i know what this thing does
Asus Express Gate Utility - never used this but does it work?

I guess that's it the last two are just norton internet security and adobe reader which i already know what they do.

NB Probe Utility is to monitor your computers temp and fans.. You dont get to see them but if they go out of range it will alert you... So unless your going to use another program for that use that...

Power4 Gear eXtreme is required for Direct Console to function correct... If not it wont allow overclocking.... So we kind of get forced to use that until someone gets setFSB working correct.

Express Gate is a toss up... IT should work for 99% people now with the new version for I am one of a few it dont work for... Could be because it dont like my 5300 wifi card but who knows.

NB SW Kit is a patch for something, so I would install it...

Virtual Camera you will need if you plan to use the camera ever.

Everything else is junk in my opinion.

Also make sure your getting newest version of everything from asus not the cds....

So are you just doing a clean windows install and then going to the Asus website to install the applications you mentioned?

Yup, I have a vista Ultimate x64 for I clean install with that and the only thing I used off the CD was the ACPI00 driver as its never changed and the sound drivers as the ones on the web wont install for some odd thing.

Everything else I go and download... The onboard lan drivers I let windows update install as it has latest ones.

The chipset and wifi and raid manager I get direct from intel... and video right from nvidia.

Everything runs good. No issues for me other than my express gate dont work but I think its because I changed my wireless to a 5300 from the 5100 wifi card.
