I had that problem w/ mine, it seems to be a common problem (driver related?) I hooked mine through an hdmi to hdmi hp monitor, and no problems. But when using vga is when i get the flickering. Maybe try a hdmi to dvi? if your external display supports dvi or even hdmi to hdmi. Solved my whole problem. Good luck!!!
