ok, so I know a lot of other people have mentioned this, but I still need some help! I just bought this new laptop and have read about how ugly the partitions are and such. When I first turned on the computer, it recommended to create the factory setting recovery cd- which took 4 dvd's. OK, i did that, but doesn't it come with a recovery cd? Anyways, it said successful so i hope it will work when i need it. Then i noticed the partition recovery. is that any different than what i just burned?

Here are the partitions of the two 320g hdds:
15g recovery partition, 75g OS partition, rest is logical drive partition.
Second hard drive: 2 equal partitions (i already made that one into one using win7 partition manager or something).

Basically, I believe I want the first hdd to be one partition maybe with the 15g recovery partition though.
The second one to be one partition as well.
Any ideas, recommendations, suggestions about partition ideas and how to go about making the new partitions with software or something?

Control Panel(classic view) ->Administrative tools->COmputer management->disk management. Delete the data partition, click on your OS partition and click Expand.

you need to delete the partition after it first

i did, it says "free space" in green font, but the expand button on the OS partition is gray and not able to be clicked. However, i can shrink it.

I had the same problem. There's a free program out there called Gparted. Download the CD iso, burn to CD and this will let you do whatever you like. Just remember to backup everything just in case.
