Hello, im new here on these boards and on notebook buying and i need your help before i make some terrible mistake, so:
Im just about to buy a new (1st) notebook, and i´m pretty much decided on buying an asus L5000GA or L5000GX (i really dont remember wich is wich) mostly because of processing and graphics power for 3d renderings, autocad, photoshop and the occasional doom3 playing
It´s equipped with a P4 3.2Ghz Ht processor, a radeon9600 pro (not sure), 128mb a dvd writer and 1GB of ram, a 80Gb hardrive and all the other stuff you know better than me.
My question is, I´ve heard some whispering about a heat problem when using this notebook. Do you think that this problem is that real enough for me to choose another notebook. If not, do you think this is a good one?
Oh, and one more question: This model has been around for more or less a year (when i started looking) and it still seems the best one, at least here in portugal. Do you know if there are new models coming out soon?
Thanks in advanced
PS: Being that i live in portugal, there aren´t many brands and models for me to choose...asus, hp, sony...the most wellknown ones...

The L5000GA has been around for awhile. Asus also used to have the L5000GM but has now discontinued that model. They're now introducing the L5000GX. I think it's been available since August and has an ATI Mobility Radeon 97000 128MB VRAM instead of the 9600. I believe the L5GX will eventually replace the L5GA. From what I can tell, resellers have limited quantities of the L5GA.
At any rate, I too have been trying to find out further information about heat dissipation issues in the L5GX, without success. I spoke with one reseller/owner, who was very rude. He said you have to expect some heat, given the CPU, but that the fans provided good cooling. Unfortunately, there's no place here where I can actually look at an Asus in person and try it out. In contrast, I've done a lot of testing of HP DTR laptops that have P4C CPUs, and I've found their cooling systems to be excellent.
Good luck finding what you want!
