hello all
i have an ASUS X58L laptop (running XP Pro) with built in wireless and a BT home hub 2
the laptop detects the wireless network but does not auto connect unless you turn off the wifi before you shut down and then turn it on after it has booted up
there is a wireless client (cant think of the name) as well as windows
i have tried stopping the client at bootup but still no good
it does connect if you connect manually and the connection is good.
a mate bought his laptop down last night ( fugitzu siemens) and that connected automaticlly
i was wondering is it ok to remove the wireless client thats on the laptop and just keep windows to do it.
i dont want to remove it and mess it up
thanks
David

uninstall the wireless client and try reinstalling device drivers. Wireless card drivers can be found on Asus website or if you know specifics, the original manufacturer's site.

Is it an unsecured network? Most wireless configurations by default prevent you from automatically connecting to an unsecured network. Also you can usually find a preference in the wireless client to use the regular windows wireless configuration instead of the manufacturer's client. The option for unsecured networks for the windows configuration looks like this:
(deleted since it's irrelevant now) -
the connection is on a secure wireless network and the connection is set to automatic.
it will auto connect if you boot up with the wireless off then turn it on when XP has finished loading. but not if it boots up with the wireless on.
i dont want to delete the atheros client utility and for it not to work
thanks

If you think it's a problem with the atheros client, you can switch to using the windows manager:
(pic removed to save bandwidth)
You can always switch back if it ends up being worse. -
windows is set to control the wireless settings and it connects good with a good signal and no dropped lines
