It could be the little tab, usually on the upper corners of the unit. It's designed to turn the LCD off when you close the unit. It's possible it's sticking or sitting low and depressing the switch under it. You may want to tap it a few times to see if it helps. If this doesn't work, it's possible you may need the LCD or LF inverter (inverter for backlight) replaced, could be failing.

It's different on every notebook. On my notebook and on the HP I had, it was in the upper right/left corner of the case.

    1. Open LCD
    2. Look at the casing above the keyboard on the left or right side, is there a little "stick" sticking out? If there is, this is the "tab" that get's depressed when you close the LCD so it turns the backlight off for the LCD
    3. If it doesn't, it could be designed into the hole where the LCD latch latches into. The latch hook itself may press the switch when closed
    4. If that's there, then it could just be built into the notebook and there's not user access to it. In this case, you're probably gonna have to call Asus for service/support.

Hope I didn't make things more confusing. If I didn't I'd recommend contacting Asus because I think I'd just make things more confusing, even to myself. [ :D]

    Good Luck!

I've noticed the same issue with my asus M6R notebook! The screen flickers in the upper right corner. I don't think it's something that could be fixed.
