Ive run the demo of UT2004, and it runs fine. As does UT2003.
I'm hoping to get Doom3 tommorrow, and I will post my results then.
There have also been a number of reports on how to get 40%+ increases in performance in Doom3 (esp on ATI cards), thru various tweaks, I will also give these ago and report back. Hopfully by the weekend

i wanted to buy a m6ne, and i was wondering how doom 3 runs on it? (resolution/detail)
that and ut2004 -
i'm running perfect at medium settings and 1028 by 768 resolution but i had to take off one of specular settings in order for it to run smoothly. Average frame rate is probably around 40ish, when no monsters around constant 60. I'm running an M6N so an M6Ne should run even better!
-
can the ppl that use the
timedemo demo1 setting to run the fps test
plz specify the resolution and the exact advanced settings they
have on and such... this would be very helpful as well their
system spec... this will help give a better comparison...
it seems i crash when i turn on some eye candy features...
gonne hafta play around with these settings... -
The timedemo wont give an accurate represtation of what the game runs like, it seems when i run the timedemo it lags alot more than it actually does in game. When no monsters around its probably around 30-40 fps (that is unnoticable lag) then when monsters capable of throwing fireballs come i think it activates some heat effect or something which really begins to lag the computer, the fps rate goes down to about 20ish. Overall its very playable. One good tweak is to go into your windows settings and goto OpenGL options and reduce the Best quality to just quality, wont see a huge picture difference but you will notice a speed difference.

Ok so I finally got doom3 and I'm struggling to get it to work at all. I had omega drivers installed, so I un-installed those and gave the ATI4.7 ones ago. Used the driver mod tool which worked flawlessly.
It was a bit better, but still crashed after a minute or two. Note I'm running the game on med settings 8X6 in most of these tests, with advanced stuff turned off.
Very disappointed as the notebook should be able to handle these settings with ease.
I also have XP SP2 installed I figure that could be the sorce of my pains so I am considering uninstalling SP2 to see it that is better. Will also try the 4.9beta drivers from ATI !
Diabolical7 have you figured out your probs with the game yet??? any suggestions would be great.

Yep thats the same as me. I've tried the game on lowest settings possible and I still only get one or two minutes before the game crashes.!
Is the driver link for ones that works? or are they the ones your using that don't work. Also that link looks like it is for the M2C notebook????
Thanks for the reply....good to know I'm not the only one out there

ya tell me how it goes... cuz i'm curious to find out if it
is the actual drivers... tried doom3 for like 30min while i was
talking to ma gf on the phone... was she pissed... ne who
it didn't crash... -
Just found these drivers (M6N_VGA_V801.zip) on the USA ASUS website for the M6Ne. They were released on 2004/07/26 !
Here is a link:
http://usa.asus.com/support/download/selectftp.aspx?l1_id=3&l2_id=30&l3_id=0&m_id=1&f_name=M6N_VGA_V801.zip~zaqwedc
I will give these ago to see if they work, report back in a few hours

diabolical7 it looks like it is/was a driver problem. I tried the 4.9beta's from ATI, these worked a bit better (then the 4.7's) but after about 10-15min the screen would go black/turn off, game would still be playing?? Not sure why but would have to restart to fix the problem.
So I then tried the drivers that you suggested. Yippie they worked ! Also did the tweaks to the interactions file and increased the cache mem thingo to 128. Was able to play the game on high settings 8X6 with an average of 30FPS. After a few days of frustration I'm now super happy. Just hope ATI gets there drivers in order asap.
a
ps anyone else out there having this problem? I think the 4.7 driver release is bad. This driver set has also been withdrawn by ATI from 3DMark03 which I guess adds to the idea that these are a crap set of drivers!

what pisses me off is that u can't get drivers directly from ATI...
thats a major blow imo... but i'm getting my m6ne upgraded with a
piece of 512mb 333mhz kingston... to gimme 1024mb... hope that helps
the overall performance... -
Hi Underpantman,
Have you tried the M6N_VGA_V801.zip drivers? Thanks,
-
Na I didn't bother ! My main purpose was to get doom3 running and that happend with the ones that diabolical7 suggested, thus no need to search.
I may load up the ATI 4.9 when they get released but until then I won't be trying any more drivers.

Catalyst 4.9? How do you get the ATI desktop drivers to run properly on a laptop? Aren't we suppose to use customized drivers for the mobility chips?
-
There is an ATI mod tool (http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/), which will alter the desktop drivers so that you can instal 'n run them on a notebook.
Seems to work fine for me, only prob I had was with doom3. But this seems to due to the orginal drivers as much as anything else.
