i am looking into the n51vn with blu-ray. but i have been unable to find an answer to these questions:

    1) will asus ship a 64 bit upgrade disc?

    2) what is the battery life on power saver with the lowest possible settings?

    3) Did i get a futureproof laptop regarding the upcoming release of arrandale processors?

    4) will the hdmi port play blu-ray movies on a t.v.?

    1. No. The N51 comes only with a 32bit OS. The Windows 7 upgrade disk will also be a 32 bit version

    2. I'd put it in the 2-3 hour range with the lowest screen brightness and occasional wifi usage + word processing.

    3. Somewhat. Though the N51 is starting to be phased out, the hardware (T9600 + GT 240M + 4GB ram) is surely more than sufficient for any casual gaming and heavy multitasking. The T9600 at 2.8GHz is only two ranks below the best T9900 (3.06GHz) CPU.

    4. The HDMI port is simply a digital port; it doesn't "play" blu-ray movies. If you replace the DVD optical drive in the N51Vn to a blu-ray drive, then yes, you can play blu-ray movies and connect it to your TV via the HDMI port.

the n51vn has a blu-ray player but i am not a computer noob all i wanted was to now if this laptop was able to stream blu-rays to an hdtv (hdcp compatible) because i have seen reports of certain laptops not being able to do that

i also know that it is being phased out

All N51Vn-A1s carry a DVD optical drive. No blu-ray. The easiest way to check is open your optical drive and check if there are 2 laser heads. If there's only one, then it's just a DVD/RW drive.

AFAIK, all HDMI ports will be able to transmit HD video to HDTVs. The issue shouldn't be the HDMI port, but most likely a driver or decoding software issue.
