i just just just got a n550jv from the local pawn shop for 399 cad and it was such a good deal i purchased it within 4 minutes of seeing it in the display case. bluray 1080p ips touch 750m 8gb ram 750g harddrive. i just couldnt pass on it, i suspected something was majorly wrong with it.

all i have found so far is cpu hits 90c during 3dmark vantage, poor overclocker. and this threads meaning. poor batterylife. the battery life wear is just under 15percent and what bothers me is the 50 000 mwh left drains at 23000-18000 mwh leaving me with max 2.5 hours everything turned off and min brightness with gpu set to integrated. why would asus design such a power hungry laptop if this is normal. and if it isnt what should the power drain be, with all off, min brightness, idle. does anyone have any idea as to what could be wrong or what i need to do as im a asus rookie, and never had to tweak a used battery.

i beg for a response to this issue as who like to spend hours and hours trying to fix something basic like a battery.

thanks a million you guys. and these forums rock. :) because of you

You should be seeing closer to double that battery life under conservative conditions. Is that 15% wear report accurate? What kind of work were you doing when testing the battery life?

idle. doing nothing. wear is fairly accurate. do you know if i can do anything to get less power draw or what you expect

You bought an used item so it is reasonable to see battery wear at 15%. Besides, 2.5 hours is a long time already.

Since the system is an ultrabook, it is possible that the heat cannot be dissipated efficiently under load. But 90C is normal because the system was under max load.

Not much you can do. The i7 will draw a fair amount of power, and the NVidia chip will draw even more when it's used. You can try undervolting; this may help with temps and battery life by a little. 90 C is a little high for this system, but then, if you're overclocking, maybe not. You can try a better thermal compound, too.
