    Hi all,

Im currently tossing up between a asus, acer, sony or fujitsu laptop. I know that fujitsu is good quality since most of their models are made in japan, but im not sure abou thte service and spare parts avaliability.
sony and acer i know are good well known notebook manufactors with pretty good service and build quality.

But please do give me some advice on asus, it the build quality good? how is the service? are they robust? do they use good quality parts? etc...

    thanks

Build quality is good, they make most of the parts themselves. The service you get depends on your reseller, but I've had excellent service from mine (Integrated System Technologies), and I know Justin from ProPortable is also great from looking around the forum here. I'm not sure what you mean by "robust", but Asus is known to make the best motherboards in the world (they've been voted #1 by Tom's Hardware for 7 years in a row, I think), and they have been making quality notebooks for different brands for a few years now. Their own branded notebooks and "built on Asus" notebooks are both very high quality.

I think ASUS when you compare them to whats out there, they are very good, are they perfect..no but then no company is. In general their notebooks are of high quality and strike a nice balance betw a performance notebook and a professional business style. Thus if your after a notebook that can function well in the office and at home then ASUS is a great choice. There are a realatively new name to the notebook market, but have been producing notebooks as an ODM for around 10years, plus they have been making very high quality m/b for along time for both desktop and notebook markets...so they have a long history of quality.
As for service, its not the greatest interms of telephone or email support, but this isnt that bad as in general you wont have any problems and if you do it is best to take it back to the reseller or to an asus service center. Thus my only advice is to make sure you go with a good reseller, as this will be important should you ever run into problems with your lappie. Every use that I can remember on this forum that has complained about asus service has not had a good reseller to deal with. Or alternatively make sure there is an ASUS service center close by that you can deal with directly.
    Good luck

don't rely on "Made in XXXX" too much. The world continues to be more globalized than before, and I'm pretty sure that while some components are made in Japan, others are probably made elsewhere like Taiwan, China, etc in order to get the best deals.. and then finally assembled somewhere else.

ASUS is god. How dare you question the almighty ASUS. Repent!

But seriously...I will be receiving my ASUS W3V sometime this week or early next week. So I'll let you know if they're all they're cracked up to be.
