I just tried to make recovery discs & I was under the impression that I would need apprx 6. It only ended up using 2 dvds. Does this mean that the os is on a partition. I really wanted to do a clean install but maybe I shouldn't risk it.

The amount of recovery disc you need is dependant on the size of the recovery partition. I'd need two for my N50, but 6 for my G73. What notebook do you have?

    u46 best buy version.

But either way I don't think that I will continue with this task. Since I purchased this w my own $$$ I am very hestiant to try a clean install. I have been sitting here for hrs reading the link & searching online.

Right now I am going to go ahead & create the windows 7 disc as instructed maybe I'll take it from there.

My UL80VT only requires 2 disks to do a full reinstall with no install partition.

Personally I'd do a clean install with a Windows 7 disk (which you can download legally, just with no CD key). However before that, make sure you have all the drivers downloaded from ASUS's website.

I just realized this was a question about a recovery install. I also agree that a clean install is the only way to go. I got 2 install disks with my UL80VT that I can perform a clean install with. When I made recovery disks it took 4, but that I chalk up more to the fact that the disks ASUS gave me were most likely DL disks and we don't get the option to use them when burning recovery disks.
