I am a little unclear about something.

So there is 1gb of memory attached to the CPU.

Then there is a empty ram slot. According to crucial it only supports up to 1gb of ram.

What happens if I put a more than 1gb of ram into the open slot with win7 pro 32bit?

What happens if I upgrade to win7 64bit?

Obviously it allows almost any amt of ram but is it the slot or cpu that limits the amount of ram that can be supported?

The system should be able to accomodate a 2GB stick in the open slot, and function normally.

Asus only tests the readily available RAM options when the model is first produced, and the T101 is old enough. Crucial's database is derived directly from the original manufacturer's spec sheets and not updated, hence the 1GB note.

Asus' history is rife with examples of older systems that have been upgradeable to 3GB total. There are occasions, however, of some old motherboards not supporting a 2GB stick (it's a BIOS limitation) but those are usually ones at least 3-4 years in the past - i.e. Pentium or original Core generation.

I would expect that you should be fine with adding 2GB.
