okay
im trying to get a new laptop for myself.
i still using this old latop HP dv4000, which i paid like $1400 back in 2006.
anyways, i first thought get asus n81vg?
but battery life was way too bad...
i want it to be at least 4 hrs. currently mine has 2 hrs maybe? with deemed lcd and muted speaker or no connected headphone.
i know it sucks.
im thinking getting this asus u80v. but then i can find a single place that sells this laptop. all the sudden ul80v comes out on surface.
which looks pretty bad except battery and what?.
u80v has better cpu, graphic, SPEAKER, and reasonable battery life.
zdnet.com&cnet.com review says that u80v has 2 hrs and 51 minutes battery life with full lighted lcd and speaker.
okay too much words.
i want my future new laptop to be have these features.
1. ultra portable 5lbs maxium
2. nice graphics(but not too good...less than 9600 be fine)
3. battery life (at least 4hrs)
4. speaker!!!!!(so important because ul80v has crappy speaker on the bottom???? ? you will hear crappy sound that once bounced from table and if you listen and typing together you bounce back the sounds with your arms. NO WAY!!!!! also im the one uses lapton on bed many time(im not paralyzed) that will muted the speaker)
i guess thats about it?
so
my question is u80v is no longer in production?
whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy~~!!!!!!!~~~~~~?????????

Less than 9600, are you refering to an nVidia chip then? BB just closed out their U-81a's so I think Asus is clearing inventory for the Fall lineups. The BB incarnation has the GMA4500 MHD, and while not a gaming chip it is more than adaquate for desktop use. In WoW, just to test it out, I put the 10 day trial in and running around on low settings at native resolution I typically see 40+ fps.
Edit; forgot, almost all laptop speakers are lousy. No real exception here but with tweaking they are tolerable and fairly loud........ -
im not saying the laptop speakers are not loud but noisy?
especially those under speakers.
i have altec lansing on my laptop i like the sound quality but the location of its is very baaaaadd right under my arm when im typing stuffs y'kno...
also, it doesnt matter if it is ati or ndivia as long as it does not consumes too much power with descent performance.
so asus is closing out there fall line up? they release laptop every quater?
wow.... anyway so u80v is already a old model? -

Suggest X4500 14.1" Dell E6400 from Dell Outlet + DIY ViDock for gaming using external desktop graphics to external LCD. Get plenty good portability on the go that way.
-
thanks for you advice but i really want just have everything in one.
so i dont havve to carry all the docking systems with me when i trevel. -
-
I use a glass cutting board to put my laptop on when I use it anywhere that is not a desk. Its the perfect size and keeps the vents and intake holes open.
-
when overheated dont they just shut off?
anyway yeah i use antec cooler when i use it on the bed most time.
but sometimes i have to use something like magazine to flatten the underneath surface.
just wanna know if u80v is out of production.
does anyone can tell me??? -
Sure they shut off but by that point you have probably cut a number of months off the lifetime of that CPU... and maybe near-melted some components inside the casing.
Definitely not something you'd want to do on a regular basis.
-
wow...really??
my this old dv4000 which has ati x700 and pentium M 1.86
shutted off like 5 times in total......i dont know why that happened tho..
i thought it was because over heating it was not that hot
i mean it was hot but not buring hot. sometimes it makes me worry that this computer stays on even it is too hot to touch the bottom for 3-5 sec.
anyway....i just need to get the new one it is too heavy to carry..
i think korea still selling u80v with p8700 prossesor
but it's like 1100USD.....plus shipping?? even more.. -
Where have you seen a ul80 to know that the speakers are bad? I'm looking all over for one of them or the ul50Vg but I can't find them anywhere?
-
I was exaggerating a bit to make my point. In any case, please make sure you don't get many shutdowns due to heat.
I would advise temperature monitoring with HWMonitor, and checking if it is indeed overheating. If so, then a fan and vent cleaning are probably in order. Even if not, if you haven't cleaned them in a long while (e.g., more than a year) it would be a good idea to do it. -
u80v has altec lansing speaker just above the F1-F12 keys.
but ul80 has two speaker seperated under the laptop. i mean its not under but under-ish as you might catch if you seen the pictures, front bottom side of laptop is kinda curved in about 45 degree thats where they putted speakers not even center of it. they are right there where your arms will be resting when you are typing.
im pretty sure ul50vg have same speaker location. -
i have one more question for you.
do you know any program which will tell you how long the battery will be lasting?? some of my friends computer has that like "2:30 min remaing 97%"
but mine(HP DV4000) only tells me percentage.
asus u80v ul80v
