hey i was wondering did anyone try out the new asus ul50? i want to know how long the battery really lasts and how you guys think about it.

yes i know there are smaller laptops and there is a version vt coming out. most likley i wont need the gpu and im looking at getting the ul50 because it has a number keypad, it may become useful cuz i am going to be an accountant but not sure yet.

and for people that have just gotten any other new ul series. can it handle like streaming and just surfing the web pretty well? im a little worried since it is a culv and im coming from a e6400

I know you don't require graphics, but there's a preview of the UL50VT over at anandtech.

I would still recommend the Vt option. The 't' stands for turbo33, which dramatically increases the speed of the SU7300 via factory overclocking. The result is GREATLY improved performance, while maintaining outstanding battery life.

Also, many future apps will use the GPU to enhance performance, making the Vt a wise choice.

In any event, the preview should give you a good idea of this laptop!

    Hi,

i`m not sure if this info is any god but i just bought a Asus UL50AG a few days ago.
I didn`t really test the battery life since i didn`t have time but with Windows 7 installed and the Asus Power4Gear software on the battery saving setting (screen at about 40%) it says 10,5 hours. If you would like to know anything else let me know.
It is pretty snappy, windows 7 working like a charm no lag. I will test it in the next few days.

How is the build quality? I've recommended the UL50Vt to someone but am not sure about the build quality.

i can`t complain it is ok (of course it depends on the people judging it)
i didn't feel any flexing, screen is solid thanks to the exterior brushed aluminum (which by the way is nice but gathers fingerprints like there is no tomorrow)
all in all it is solid

Thanks! This is very helpful, as I was concerned that it would be flimsy or something.

    Hey

i was wondering b/c i'm not sure whether or not the UL50AG will in fact be fast enough.. everyone says to get the VT, but iono. has anyone tried streaming videos on ninjavideo, megavideo, zshare.net or any of those sites? i'm wondering whether the streaming is choppy on divx streaming thru ninjavideo, for example. if it's not choppy with the AG, then that's what i'll get. actually, even with the overclocking, is it choppy with the VT?

if someone could find out n let me kno as soon as they can, that would be greatly appreciated. best buy is selling an asus UL50AG for 680$, but i'm not sure whether that's a good buy..

    thanks.
