I've been without a computer with the past two months and have been waiting to get the haswell version of the ux31. I cannot find any info whatsoever on the release date of this laptop, however. Apparently it is in stock on this german website in 15 days Ux31la - achat/vente Ux31la - Rue du Commerce (use Google translate) but I have heard nothing about the US release date. I am really hoping to get it before I start uni on august 19. How much later does the US receive ASUS laptops after their European counterparts? Any info will be much appreciated; it looks like it is going to be an excellent ultrabook (raid 0 ssd, hd4400, and up to 8gb of ram)!

Hey there,
I don't believe we will be receiving that model, but I think your best bet would be to contact Asus sales support. Chances are they won't give many specifics, but you can inquire nonetheless to see if it will be made available here in the States, or at least a variant of it.
If there is any official news on it and not just speculation, then they may actually be able to give you a date. -

This appears to be a user's manual for the UX31LA. I found it here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download UX31LA
you should be able to click throught the tabs for the model (except specs) on this page, some mildly interesting stuff.
I hope Asus releases this soon. The manual is dated for May 2013. All drivers are available in the second link as well, but I don't see anything too special about the drivers.

But is it worth it to buy this, twice as expensive as ux31a with similar specs, just a version newer processor. The battery life seems to be pretty identical. Ok, you get touchscreen as well, but if it was up to me I would easily remove it...

Here you can order it in Norway. It says 100+ in stock 15. Aug. 12995 NOK => 2200ish USD. So, not cheap :/ -
Norwegian site tested the ux31la: http://www.dinside.no/920831/asus-zenbook-touch-ux31la
-
Any news on this machine? Im planning on getting it over the s7
-
Same here. In Norway they have it unconfirmed in stock 5. September.
-
Eek.. seems ill end up with the Acer s7.
The infinity is far far away, the samsung is too expensive.. and god knows when the new MBPr will be released. -
This Norwegian site seems to say it's coming out on September 5th Google Translate
-
What site?
-
The "Google Translate" is a link, I just didn't know how to format it
-
When I opened the link on my phone I only got Google Translate, not the site it translated. But when I opened it on my computer it worked.
It was old news that site, I was hoping for somthing new info
And the translation isnt that good, it only "unconfirmed" in stock 5. Sept. So they're only hoping to get it in to that date.
-
I'm not sure if this is new, but I just ran across the UX31LA page on ASUS
UX31LA - Notebooks & Ultrabooks - ASUS
No price or availability info yet. -
New release date on the .no and .dk site is the 19th. Sigh.. guess ill have a look af the Vaio pro once again.
-
Gave up the delay after delay, so i ordered the 900x3e! Cheaper and matte screen. I may buy an Ipad mini Retina (if it comes this fall) or the new Nexus 7 for the money saved
-
Changed to the 19th
-
Why would one want to get the UX31LA on Sep 19, if the 301 will become available in November? That's max. 8 weeks, in fact one Asus guy said _early_ Q4. Also, it seems to me these two models are curiously similar, with little speaking for the 31LA except the option of a 900p matte screen @4GB, and somewhat lower price. What do you think?
-
Where'd you get the date from? Seriously just want to buy one of these things already. For me personally, I like the design of the UX31 series and I don't need to wait to pay more for the UX301.
-
Now it says October 3rd
I emailed my company's CDW rep and she also said Q4, which would mean October at the earliest.
Is Intel having problems making enough Haswell chips or something? This really sucks. -
Still oct 3rd. Any in debt reviews?
-
anyone heard anything on the U.S. release date?
-
I'm also looking to get the Ux31la.
The Norwegian site now says Oct 10 and Windows 8.1 comes out October 17, so it's safe to say around that time. -
the UX31LA is now on Asus' site
-
any news on release in NA?
-
That site now says October 24. Looks like it will be closer to November when the the Infinity is released.
-
I was surprised when I saw today that it's available for order at microsoftstore.com
Buy ASUS Zenbook Touch UX31LA-UH51T Touchscreen Ultrabook - Microsoft Store
Interestingly it lists the graphics as HD5000. I always thought it was going to be HD4400, so wonder if it's a typo. -
what i'm hoping is a typo is the "up to 5 hours battery life" line because that would be a huge disappointment.
-
The information is wrong. You should getting more out of the configuration. If you are not satisfied with it, Microsoftstore has great return policy. They don't charge restocking fee and has 30 day return period.
-
It is a typo. They fixed it.
-
So did anyone actually buy it yet?
-
At least it's finally available in Norway. It would have been THE perfect Ultrabook for me (FHD touch, i7, 8GB Ram, 2x128GB SSD Raid0, Haswell) but it looks like it's getting skipped here in Switzerland (and surrounding country's) in favor of the new UX301LA-C4006H Infinity, which is technically identical - apart from the +200-300$ price sticker
. So I'll probably end up with an AB9+ instead of waiting another 6-8 weeks for an overpriced UX301.
-
Considering the upgraded model of the AB9+ (8gb ram 256gb ssd) is the same price as the entry UX301 (also 8gb 256gb ssd), it's not THAT overpriced. Yes, the AB9+ will have an i7, but it's the lowest bin i7.
Still overpriced, but not as bad as it seems at first glance. I mean, someone has to pay for that PCIe ssd, RAID 0, gorilla glass, all the other bells and whistles that the AB9+ doesn't have. Closest thing we have to the macbook 13 retina -
Yes, I got mine yesterday. i74558U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 1440px Screen.
My first one had a defect battery, but my second one is just working fine.
At the moment I'm installing a clean Win8.1 on it.

i think you're talking about the 301LA, not the 31LA discussed here
-
The ux301la isn't released yet. So it can't be.
-
AFAIK, ux31LA doesn't have a 1440px screen does it?
-
No, I'm pretty sure it has a 1080p screen.

It has been released, but just low quantities

So if anyone did buy the ux31la, what are your impressions?

I saw one of these yesterday in person, and took a good long look at it. Sound seems decent, kind of low but then again the room I was in was very loud. The screen quality is, at least at first glace, perfect. I wasn't able to run tests but just by looking at it, damn. I found a review of this computer as well, you will have to translate it, but it seems pretty good according to these guys.
Asus Zenbook Touch UX31LA - Test / Recension - Bärbara datorer - SweClockers.com
The touch pad is pretty nice, works well, the driver is kinda limited in options, I'm sure you can download a better one though. The screen resolution is, in my opinion, perfect for this size of computer. I wish I could get an i7, but i5 is my only option. The keyboard felt nice, that's not really a surprise. The build quality is literally nothing short of perfect, and when I say perfect, I mean PERFECT. I've been looking for a truly refined ultrabook to compliment my desktop and so far I've been stuck looking at Apple machines which, while being nice, are not as...efficient...at running Windows, and all kinds of Windows machines with crap finish on some level, or an incredibly high price (Apple is overpriced...RIGHT, not true with ultrabooks at all).
I am seriously considering getting this computer, the screen has practically no flex, the touch screen function works well, there is no keyboard flex, and the finish is gorgeous. I mean, this thing walks all over the Macbook Air and sits proudly right next to the Macbook Pro lineup in terms of build. It's that good. Right now I'm between this and a Macbook Pro 13, power and cost being the only differentiating factors. If you didn't get the idea yet, I really liked this machine. If anyone has any questions about it feel free to let me know. I didn't get to use it for long, but I did inspect it pretty well, and it's NICE. -
Where did you see this?
-

The Microsoft store. I think I might be buying one. I wanted a macbook pro 13 but they are more expensive, have proprietary ssd's, and the battery is glued to the case. I also don't really like Mac OS much at all. Nothing against it but that's not how I like to get work done. -
from the pictures, the UX31LA looks exactly the same as the last 2 versions of the zenbook prime. did you notice any differences?
the Ivy Bridge version has been on sale numerous times for around $600 the past 6 months or so. this current price for the i5 Haswell version seems ridiculous. and the battery is only 'up to 5 hours'? wow. -
Don't all the Zenbook Primes start at a high price? But it's still quite high.
I think (I hope) the 5 hours of battery life is a typo, otherwise it has terrible battery life. -

I actually just got one of these. It's not the same as the last generation internally at all. The chassis is largely shared but the display now has a glass cover for the capacitive touch panel. It looks very good and the fact that it has the last generations body was part of what appealed to me (I personally really liked it). With respect to the rest of the design, it's relatively similar, but with minor changes, ala macbook air update. Apparently the touch pad has been updated to function better. The display is 1080p IPS touch sensitive, and the ssd is the new M.2 standard. It is VERY fast. I think I'm getting boot times between 10 and 7 seconds from cold. It also has a secondary ssd slot for a raid array, or, I'm assuming, extended storage, and the wireless card is the new AC standard. Overall, the price is pretty much right on the mark for 1200 if you factor the build quality. It's competitive with other ultrabooks in it's category. The Microsoft store will give you a 10% discount if you are affiliated with an educational institution, so I got it for $1080. Battery life, as far as I've seen, and according to the review site I linked above, is about 7-8 hours, so much improved with Haswell and competitive. I'm working on a review of this device, feel free to ask me any questions about it in the mean-time. -
So has Asus fixed all the issues that the earlier Zenbooks had?
