I'm pretty sure i am asking something obvious but none-the-less i cannot figure it out myself. I am trying to capture video with my w2v using the included RCA to A/V input plug on the front of my laptop.

The software that was included, cyberlink powerdirector, doesn't recogise this as a capture source. I also poked around windows media center. I have looked for instructions without any luck. So here I am....

I've used that feature on a W1 w/ adobe premier .... The W1 was never sold here noting that feature, but I did have the cable from Asus and the AV-in was on all of the sold W1's...... I'm probably the only person to even use that feature on it. The W2 has the same input and it should work the same way.... I could try it for you, but I don't think I've got premier loaded up on that.. might take me a couple days.

I tried with premier pro and it shows only the firefire port as possible capture device. I checked in the device manager and the "lifeview flytv mce mini capture device" is listed and is 'working properly'. I re-installed the drivers from the drivers disk, and looked for other drivers at the lifeview website (none as it is OEM part i think). I am really shocked that this is so difficult on a high end media notebook. Are there any instructions i am overlooking?

Yep, that's it..... it really doesn't need instructions, but it's like a feature Asus doesn't even stress and I have no idea why........ i don't know many other notebooks that even have it (which would be make it something to brag about I'd think)..... it should just *work* as long as your have the device showing up as it is in the device manager.

I spoke to ASUS tech support and was told that windows media center does not support this feature well (cryptic instructions were included) and they recommended i switch to XP professional and use ASUS mobile theater. This is a little frustrating as capturing video was one of the requirements of my laptop. Considering this and my very awkward remote control/external IR receiver i'm starting to think ASUS's switch to MCE in north america is ill considered...

Hmm...I had suggested that to ASUS tech but he said XP pro required. I'll just go try it anyway.

You can install Mobile Theater (and there is an option in there for composite input)...... you DON'T need XP Pro, but what you do need to pull tv is another tuner.. because the tuner that MCE needed is a different tuner than Mobile Theater needed....... but still that shouldn't affect how it pulls video into premier.
