All W5f's come with XP Home, so you'll need to buy Pro.

Or even better, just wait and get Vista.

you reallyu cant. W5FM-2P021M now comes with MCE. if you want pro you basically have to pay 150$ more for it. Why do you need pro? most people seem to think it is better. other then it having the ability to connect to a domain there is very little advantage if any.

What is the likelyhood that your school requires pro becuase you connect to a domain rather then work group? you should ask the admin in your school

    Operating system
Microsoft XP Professional with service pack 2

Note that many computers are offered with the less expensive XP Home or XP Media Center Edition operating system. Unfortunately, XP Home and XP Media Center are not designed to connect to a domain, which is necessary in the Schools environment.

If you need to work with a domain controller, then you need XP Pro, otherise Home and MCE will be just fine..... A lot of times they "require" it, because they think they need to hire people who know that particular OS.... even though there's nothing much else different at this point.

But all W5f/fm's were coming with Home...... some of the newest models are coming with MCE...... both are going to have a free upgrade to your choice of Vista anyway.

    MCE - media center edition

OEM version of pro - xp professional, cost about $140 instead of the full retail price of whatever it is.. $300 or so.... You could probably get xp pro as a full OS for peanuts through your school with educational discounts.
