I have owned my asus z70va for around 8 months and my brother has owned his for around 3 months. We both bought from the same dealer and have begun to face similar problems.
1. within minutes of bootup we hit 97s-98 degrees
2. When gaming for more then 20 minutes our screen locks up and then goes black. Followed by a ringing sound which then leads to a reboot.
Any advice as to what to do would be appreciated.

98C is far too high, im surprised you can actualy play games for 20min if you hit that temp on start up!
I dont know if this is a common problem, but any laptop hitting those kind temps is in dangerous territory. Possible solutions:
1) Use a program called Speed Fan to control the fan
2) Get a laptop cooler fast! It will really reduce your temps
3) Undervolt your CPU, this is very effective for Pentium M's.
4) Try opening up you laptop and giving it a good clean on the inside. Make sure there is no dust building up on heat sinks/fans/grills.
If that doesnt work then contact your manufacturer. -

Seem to be your CPU is overheat and make the result of #2. You can try to open up the cover for cpu and heat sink and check the inside. Make sure no any stuff such as dust, if it does, just clean it up and let the vent be clean. And check the cpu's cooling compound or paste are still on the heat sink. You can try to apply some thermal compound after cleaning and taking out the old one, and make sure the 4 screws for CPU heat sink is tight enough and have a good connection.
