I just bought the W3J in Hong Kong and was concerned about the global warranty. Instead of the usual reciept you get in the states this was like printed and then crossed out and modified with a pen. The original laptop came with a 512mb memory stick but i traded it in for a 1gb one. This is noted on the receipt. So if I were to RMA this machine in America will they charge me extra for having to buy the original 512mb stick in my laptop?

Hmm, there have been a few lucky people that have reported modified laptops did get RMA despite the slightest difference in specs, when compared to the original W3J.
It is best to contact your reseller and or ASUS HK, and discuss it with them.
Also hope that you don't have to RMA is, good luck.
You can also go back to the store and get the 512 stick and ask to possibly use it temporarily while you have to RMA it. -
Is that the same in NA? Because i got my ram upgraded at MPC so if i need to rma it for any reason, they can create issues becuase i upgraded teh ram?

But on the receipt for the laptop it said that the memory was traded in for the 1gb one. would that matter?

For people who don't know, some of HK's W3J comes with only 512MB and 80GB.
I bought mine at horningtons, and when I asked them to upgrade the RAM to 1GB, I asked them to do it at the ASUS Service centre in the same Golden Computer Centre.... Although I have no actual proof that They really did do it at a certified ASUS service centre, I trust horningtons since it's a huge ASUS distributer... the result?
I had to send in my W3J in twice, (I'm waiting to get it back) but it seems like if ASUS will indeed take your W3J if there's an issue with it....
but my problem has to do with the GPU and I've already ran prime 95 for 4 hours and memtest86 to prove to ASUS it's not the RAM's fault... I don't know how this would affect RMA... but I don't think it would.
PS: I upgraded mine from 1x 512 to 1x1GB, ASUS did not charge me whatsoever, and yes, my recipt was also hand written.
asus's warranty policy.
