itf, I think the OP doesn't have one and is thinking of buying. Also, I've looked at a lot of screen posts here and I don't think any cover the Australian models.

exactly... I should have been less terse in my op. They are not available until the 6th in oz.

Unfortunately i have no patience - i want to be first kid on the block with the a8js.

Maybe i should just go for the f3jv and cop the lesser graphics card and the larger form factor?

I'd go for the F3 myself. Better screen I think - I don't know which resolution the F3JV is but both resolutions get good reviews in that model. I think the 1280 x 800 may need a graininess fix - the sticky is at the top of the forum here. But then, I'm not a gamer so I can't advise you on GPUs.

I have a couple of suggestions.

    Fill out the FAQ

Provide links to the products in Austrailia.

Find a friend or person who has bought the A8js nearby your location.
Then tell him/her to download Everest and check the screen for AUO or CMO.

What are your requirements in terms of screen and graphics and portability?

Sorry, I should really try and deal with that impatience thing - Unfortunately the A8JS is not out until the 8th of feb here so i can't see it until after that. maybe i should just wait...

I'm mostly programming so i like a fairly high res screen for visual studio. I want a lappy that will fit in a backpack and is not too heavy for a fit 45 year old.

There is no actual link on the ASUS site to the aussie model - all of the retailers here have the same one though...

    here

    Thanks for your time

The official Australian distributor for Asus notebooks is Synnex Australia. Here is a link to the A8Js from their website.

As Rosen has already pointed out, we here in .au won't be getting this machine till later this week, 3 months after the US, Asia and Europe. As such, any machines currently being sold are grey imports, usually out of Hong Kong... which may or may not be representative of the .au model.

Seems like you do have a few options to consider.

    A8js (waiting period)
G1 (expensive and heavy, but really nice)
    F3JP (cheap and effective)

I just used this website for prices and models, Click Here

I guess I should curb my enthusiasm and just wait and see - I need that 512MB of VRAM and the G1 is just a wee bit too expensive (I promised my wife I wouldn't go over $3000 )

    Like TedJ - still waiting...

Want my opinion? Sure ya do. :)

Get the G1 even if you have to sell a few things on eBay. Surely you have something sitting in a box somewhere?

It's really not that huge of a price difference, it's something you'll have for awhile. My vote is always to spend your money on things you'll really use the most. TV, computer, bed, stuff like that.
