My daughter purchased a U6E-X3 from Newegg, unfortunately she didn't listen to me and paid with a debit card instead of a credit card.

The unit came DOA with an unbootable hard drive (BTW, Seagate seems to be having problems with their Chinese factory made drives and failures within hours of operation). As this was a DOA, I suggested my daughter talk to Newegg about a cross-ship replacement.

No way, but they would provide overnight shipping both to Newegg and on the replacement. The expectation is that the replacement would ship within one business day of receipt of the defective unit.

...nothing, nothing, nothing ...my daughter calls and Newegg said they didn't even look at the unit but shipped it to Asus - up to 3 weeks wait expected. WHAT!!!!???? She bought this unit a month before her fall semester in college started, and now she was in classes and NEEDS a computer.

So I got on the phone with Newegg. First, the rep says, we'll ship today and email your daughter.

No email. I call back. We don't have any units in stock (they sure did when her defective unit was received!). We will have to issue a refund. When? (remember this is a debit card transaction) We don't know.

I ask to speak to the supervisor... Has to call me back. Well, ONE thing they followed through on is the supervisor did return the call. After having to get nasty, they say they will process the refund today. Apparently means they only meant they would ask accounting for the refund, because it sure wasn't deposited the next business day.

I think that Asus unit would have been perfect, but none can be found, and the U6E-A1 is outside her budget.

She is now looking at Dell refurb units (and planning to use her credit card).

You lose Asus because you sold through a company with lousy customer service. And because you misjudged demand for this unit.

i am sorry for all the problems u've had but i will say that i have never had even a single slight problem with newegg, usually 90% of the time getting to my house faster than their 3 day shipping, meaning 2 or even 1 day.

i'm hoping things work out for you but i would give newegg another chance as they have amazed me the more and more i use them :)

That really sucks, especially since your daughter really needs a laptop.
Personally, I've had a great experience with newegg, although I have to pay tax (I live in CA).
I don't know what your budget is, but maybe the similar (but a little faster) U6E-A1 would be a good replacement once you get the refund, if you're up for buying from newegg again.

I'd say newegg is a quality distributor, since I've had 100% success with everything I've ordered and RMA'd. It sounds like you had a bad situation.

I hope everything gets straightened out though.

An unfortunate tale. However, in defense of Newegg they followed their published return policies for the notebook, and in fact you're getting more than the policy allows. Newegg does not cross-ship anything, never has, and sent the unit to Asus for repair (per their option, according to policy) upon receipt.

Newegg's return policy, which has a tab linked directly to it on the U6 product page:
Desktop PC, Notebook, and Tablet PC Return Policy

    * Return for refund within: non-refundable
    * Return for replacement within: 30 days (defective items only)

This is our Detailed Desktop PC, Notebook and Tablet PC Return Policy. Under this policy all Desktop PCs/Notebooks/Tablet PCs are non-refundable, and this supersedes all other return policies. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy. Any Desktop PCs/Notebook/Tablet PC that is deemed defective may be returned for a replacement within 30 days only, but a request for refund will not be granted. If a Desktop PC/Notebook/Tablet PC is returned for a replacement, but no problems are found, the Desktop PC/Notebook/Tablet PC will be returned at your (the buyer's) expense. You should be certain in your decision to purchase a Desktop PC/Notebook/Tablet PC and must agree to this policy before completing your order. By confirming your order, you indicate your agreement to this policy.

A defective Desktop PC, Notebook, or Tablet PC that is returned for a replacement may be repaired or replaced at Newegg.com's discretion, unless otherwise required by law. We strive to uphold our standard RMA processing time for these types of items; however, in some situations the item must be sent to the manufacturer for repairs. Unfortunately Newegg cannot expedite the RMA repair process in these situations, as we must abide by the manufacturer's established processing time. If you have a question regarding a Desktop PC, Notebook, or Tablet PC RMA, please contact our Customer Service Department.

You have every right to be upset, but your daughter should have read the return terms before purchasing. Of course, with a credit card she could obviously have contested the charges while the unit was being checked at Asus.

One suggestion I could make, trying to be helpful for her, regarding Dell if she's on a budget - there are good current discount coupons (20-30%) for a customized XPS m1330, which is almost the same size as the U6 and will get much better battery life, since Dell is trying to clear out SantaRosa products; check the Dell Coupons tab at the top of the NBR homepage.

Yeah that does sound like a bad ordeal to go through. However, I have had nothing but quality service from NewEgg. I've had a few returns and DOAs, always being able to get any restocking fees waived.

I have no reason to avoid Newegg and I will not.
I belong to those who are happy with Newegg service for more than 10 long years

lol its funny how 1 bad experience from newegg puts Asus in a bad position. why would asus NOT sell to newegg. Newegg sells millions of products for asus. if anything you lose, because youre buying a refurb item from dell which means it was either a defective item before just like the asus model you got or some dell customer didnt like it. DOA happen all the time

Hmm, I've never had a problem with Newegg - its one of the best tech stores on the web. I actually bought my Asus at Newegg, after finding that GenTech PC had stopped stocking the A1 revision of the W7S, not had a problem yet.

You are wrong, ma'am. I've been a Newegg customer for 6 years and they've always helped me with any little thing, even if their usage agreement reserves the right not to in specific issues.

man im from trinidad, just visited the states, bought a ton from them. I must say they are very excellent in service. this lappy is from them. i messaged them about international shipping, within 24hrs they sent me a reply... kindly addressing my situation.

Funny you always hear about the bad incidents more than the better... not that im bringing off on anyone, but that is truly sad that you had to go thru all this with your daughter. DOA do occur at a point but to go thru all this is sad. i had my doubts as well about asus but so far im very impressed.

    God luck and God blessings.

I am sorry to hear of your problems. I had a similar situation, but with a cash order I had sent them. They simply never received it or claimed they didnt even though it had cetified shipment. Well I cancelled the check, and used one of them gift cards, and everything went fine.
I hope your situation gets sorted out soon.

Sometimes colleges offer laptop leasing programs. You may want to call your daughter and ask her if her school has anything like that. We have it here at Rensselaer and many students rent school laptops if theirs breaks. Their is a fee, but its not much.
