    Hi All,

I know I'm a bit early in shopping for my laptop (I need it in August, before school starts), but I always like to be an intelligent consumer, particularly when I'm dropping $2000 on a single item. I've 95% decided on the Z70V, and now all thats left to do is find a reseller. Specifically, I've been thinking of:

    PROportable
    ISTNC
    geared2play
NCIX.com (canadian superstore that will have the Z70V by August I'm sure)

I've heard people's testimonies on PROportable and ISTNC both here and at notebookforums, and Justin's helpfulness is rather legendary in t his community [ ;)] In making my decision, I have the following questions:

    1. Which resellers definitively ship to Canada? Do they charge taxes?
    2. How much does shipping cost to Canada?
    3. What are the different warranties like? Does anyone pay shipping to and from their facilities if there's a problem? Will it be an expensive liability should something go wrong, to ship from Canada?
    4. Dead pixel policy - which resellers check their units before sending them out, to make sure there are no dead pixels? Is there anyone that allows a return should these horrendous things arise?
    5. Who offers student discounts?

This computer will be my only machine, and I will be depending on it extremely heavily... so prompt problem solving and a solid warranty are very important. I would email each reseller personally, but as its still 2 months before I make my purchase, I don't want to be too much of a bother.... yet [|)]

I look forward to hearing your responses and experiences.
    Thank you,
    Sandeep

    1. Which resellers definitively ship to Canada? Do they charge taxes?

~~We will ship to Canada. We don't charge sales tax, however you will still pay your government taxes.

    2. How much does shipping cost to Canada?

~~I have seen it between 30 and 150.

    3. What are the different warranties like? Does anyone pay shipping to and from their facilities if there's a problem? Will it be an expensive liability should something go wrong, to ship from Canada?

~~We do not if you are out of the country.

    4. Dead pixel policy - which resellers check their units before sending them out, to make sure there are no dead pixels? Is there anyone that allows a return should these horrendous things arise?

~~We do a 24hr burn in to make sure there are no problems with the machine. If it has a ZBD warranty, we will return it to Asus immediately if there is a problem.

    5. Who offers student discounts?

~~We do. Just use the coupon code listed on our site and send in your student ID with your order.

    Thanks,

For a computer the size and weight of the Z70 and with the insurance value of about $2k..... You're looking at about $90 to shipping via USPS 3-5 day global express insured no matter where you are in Canada. FedEx works on your postal code and it will be more than USPS... between 50-100% more depending on where you are.

No US dealer can charge you tax to Canada unless they have a Canadian store, but then you could get it there.

Our warranty is good worldwide, but the international customer is responsible for shipping both ways. Not ideal, but in the US, we'll ship FedEx 2Day back to our customers and doing that internationally would be very expensive. We don't ship ground do to the issuses involved with ground. FedEx wouldn't even suggest ground when shipping computers. However, if you ship to us and include a return label, it's much easier to get around taxes and duties the second time around.

No duties to Canada for computers, but you will be paying your taxes upon arrival as John said.

    Thanks,
    Justin
