well this darn thing is a dust magnet :p . I've tried using a soft rag to wipe the screen but then it leaves a bunch of smudges. any suggestions? I asume windex would be bad for the screen so havn't tried that yet.

    From wikiHow:

"Do you miss that shiny new laptop look? Here's how to brew your own laptop screen cleaning kit with household ingredients.
    Steps

    1. Dilute isopropyl alcohol into a mix with no more than 50% alcohol and the rest distilled water.
    2. Apply the mix to a cotton cloth, like an old T-shirt, lint-free microfiber cloth, or other very soft cloth. A large cloth is best, since it will help reduce the risk that finger pressure leaves streaks in the screen.
    3. Wipe the cloth against the screen, in a counter-clockwise or other consistent motion. Take care not to press your fingers into the cloth (and screen) but apply an even pressure to the cloth."

Works like a charm for me.

Philips USA PH62054 - Notebook Computer Screen Cleaner

It does a great job on fingerprints and smudges as well. You can pick it up for about $5-$8 online at a bunch of places. It comes with a pump bottle of liquid gell cleaner and pad which can be rotated in the holder as it gets dirty from cleaning off all that dust.

    agreed.. :D

So simple. yet it works like a charm.

BE careful to fold the papertowel nicely, so its a nice flat surface that is being rubbbed (Lightly) against the surface of the lcd.

Similar idea with the dry one.

If you happen to wear glasses or have some lens cleaner and microfiber cloth lying around, it does the trick. There was this long horizontal gash down the middle of my glossy screen and I thought it was a scratch and I couldn't do anything about it. Turns it I just need to rube a little harder and it goes away.

well my sister wears glasses. I will just steal some of her lense cleaner ;) btw wouldn't a paper towl scratch the glossy coating? my sister was told never to clean her glasses with a papertowl as it would scratch the lenses.

You need to wipe in a general direction, and not all over the place. Instead of wiping back and forth, I prefer wiping up and down.

Say, how are IPA wipes in cleaning the screen? Are they good for cleaning or do they damage the screen.

Best way is to never get it dirty. :p

I find that any time I use the wet paper towel trick, there's always going to be some sort of residue which won't be evident until the unit is powered down. Call me picky, but short of that, or those LCD panel wipes you can sometimes get from the computer store, the best way is to avoid people who like touching the screen.
