I finally tried a blu-ray on my computer last night, it didn't work. It seems there is no blu-ray support in Vista, my problem why would Asus sell a blu-ray equipped maching and not give software to support the hardware. Did I miss something. Windows media and vlc won't support it, I don't want to have to buy extra support sortware.

You should also have ASUS DVD on an optical disk or already installed. You could try that one.

In my Blu-Ray laptop box I also got a copy of WinDVD for Blu-Ray. Its on its own disc. There was also a copy of PowerProducer as well for making DVD's (why couldn't they have thrown in PowerDVD rather than WinDVD).

In total I have 4 DVD's with the unit.

You have to install WinDVD Blu-Ray in order to play the Blu discs, because Vista does not natively support Blu-ray decoding - you must have a third party codec and software. Once you install that, you will be good to view.

Asus has a contract with WinDVD, which is why theirs is included with the unit ;).

Heh. My old-ish computers still came with ASUS DVD (which by the way may be just another name for WinDVD, or maybe a (stripped down?) PowerDVD).

I never cared, since I never installed them. VLC is good enough for me. No bluray for now, and not in the near future, either. 30EUR for a movie? Gimme a break.
