Isnt the A-1 the cheapest and/or lowest configuration you can get?

    1. It's not a fake ;).

    2. The machine has various lower component specs compared to the -A1, but not the gpu; the former may not make an appreciable difference for most daily usage that people put their machines through.

    3. The big difference beyond the specs is the warranty - Asus has 2 year global with ADProtection the first 12 months, and prepaid shipping both ways. BB has 1 year warranty only (I don't know whether that is administered by BB or Asus), and none of the other Asus perks.

The differences with the A1 are:
    2x 250GB HDD
    Faster CPU 2.53GHz
    and better display 1680x1050
no orange trim on the lid, its all glossy black
included gaming mouse and fugly backpack.

are those worth $300? Depends on you. Arguably, the difference in gaming performance is not noticeable, but the display resolution would be.

hey, if you like it and it does the job for you then keep the BB model, especially if you want a sub $1500 laptop for gaming purposes.

if you have the 300 its worth it. I personally hated the x-1 resolution and for almost that reason alone i didnt get it.

A reality check, and then a suggestion based on the above.....

You were happy with your purchase, and nothing about the machine you have has changed - there will always be something different/better around the corner, but that's the nature of pc technology, and various users' opinions about what they find better/worse do reflect (somewhat) biases based on their particular needs and financial situation.

Just sit down and enjoy your first notebook - it's not like you bought a budget Acer or anything. Your G50 will certainly serve you well :) :).

I agree, there's no reason for "kicking yourself" just for the academic point that there is a better G50 machine out there. If the current machine serves you well enough, then keep it. If you believe the extra features on the A1 or A2 are worth the price difference and the hassle of going through the return (not sure how BestBuy are about returns) -- then get the A1 or A2.

Either way, make a decision on the basis of practical, good reasons, not just numbers on a CPU spec sheet. ;)

You could drop a PM to Chaz. Assuming you can PM with only 5 posts. Otherwise let me know and I will ask him.

The only thing that _I_ would be concerned with the BB version is the screen resolution...that's everything to me, but I've never seen what the X-1 looks like.

If that's ok, then I wouldn't EVEN worry about the other differences...probably a great value then.

If you really need the processing power, go google up SetFSB or just buy a new CPU.

For me, the only concern was the pixels or lack thereof but if u like it as it is that's great. Small words aren't for everyone.

I couldn't agree with you more! Partially because I recently bought the newegg version of the X1. Compared to the BB X1 and a comparably configured DV5t (hp), I found the extras such as ExpressGate, warranties, and the bag/mouse make the newegg X1 an amazing value.

Also, if you are planning on running it on AC power the whole time, you can overclock it using Direct Console to around 2.49 GHz.
