I'm going to place my order today for my first notebook computer. I have narrowed it down to the ASUS G1S or C90S, the G1s has everything I am looking for and a great looking design while the C90 has a more generic appearance it seems more upgradeable and better for the long run. I do alot of online gaming and internet use, which would you guys choose? Thanks

Personally i would go for the G1S, because of its slightly better mobility. But then again the C90 is cheaper, note that i think you can only upgrade the graphics card in the C90 form what ASUS provides...also G1S has a better battery life? But you can always buy a 2nd battery...
Edit: Also i think you can only upgrade the CPU with Coroes? (if thats what they'r called) so really, that leaves you with only RAM truly upgradable... -
It depends, How important is battery life? The g1 will have a slightly longer battery that the c90s. Another thing to remember is that the c90 has the "turbo-engine" on the back. Yay for loud noises!

luckily for me, normally i will use this at my girlfriend's and plugged in, but i do go on some trips etc so the longer battery life would be helpful. Yeah the C90 will allow you to upgrade the 8600gt to something else down the road, is it known if the video in the G1S can be upgraded? I have read that the exhaust fans aren't that bad so I haven't put much thought into that aspect, I also read that the C90S might not be too "lap friendly" because of the fans, guess that would be another plus for the g1s. anyway thanks for the suggestions so far.

No the 8600GT cant b upgraded in the G1S. C90 uses MXM
-
i use the c90 on my lap all the time. it gets no hotter than my old powerbook
-
I'd go for the C90S unless you're absolutely opposed to building things by yourself. With the money you save, you could probably get a second battery, sidestepping entirely the problem of lower battery life.
-
I didn't have to build anythign at all.
-
c90s bro, it's really cool when you over clocked to 500/500 it's totally same graphic card as g1s. and faster cpu.

Scorcho,
Did you end up choosing/ordering one?
Here are some more differences:
G1:
4 GB of memory supported in 64-bit Vista
Turbo (Robson) memory available
free backpack
free mouse
Faster graphics card
C90
internal finger print reader
faster fsb
overclock utility provided and supported
upgradeable graphics card
more memory on graphics card
higher MP camera
free business case
movable camera
Despite what 10ten92 said they do not have the same graphics cards. The G1 has a 256MB card with DDR3 memory (which runs at 700mhz) while the c90s has a 512MB card with DDR2 memory (which runs at 400mhz). The verdict is still out on how much of a difference it makes in real world performance (benchmarks show the G1's card to show higher default 3d mark scores, but some people thing that games would make use of the additional memory helping out the DDr2 card - although that remains to be proven).
The battery life and weight is estimated to be about equal on both (the G1 uses an 8-cell and the C90 uses a 6-cell) and 6.6lbs is the estimated weight according to some sites. The display panels are rumored to be the same as well. -
For your uses, I think the G1S will probably be better. It has slightly better graphics performance and it sounds like the styling really appeals to you.

More people would be happy with a g1s.

I went ahead and ordered the G1S, it shipped within a few hours and I should have it by Thursday!
It was a tough decision for some reason the G1S just looks more durable to me and has longer battery life. I had my mind set on the C90s for the last few months but I came here and started reading and became interested in the G1S... oh yeah you get a free notebook backpack and logitech mouse too
Anyway it's gonna be a long few days waiting for it to arrive! Thanks for your opinions. -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Uh I thought about the g1 when I was going to buy a laptop but the c90 is over 300 dollars cheaper for better specs (except gpu). Also did not like the too flashy nature of the g1. I would not call the c90s look generic the pics do not do it justice. The c90 is honestly just sleek and sexy and after taking it campus a bunch of people were like "hey what brand is that laptop?". Some of the people were attracted by the glossy design but most saw the back sticking out and I told them it was a turbo engine, lol. I was actually able to preach a bit for Asus and spread the word of the good company since so few people know about it. But regardless the c90 was very attractive in their opinion and in my own. But to each his own, have fun with your g1! Asus ftw.
