I have the ma****a uj-850s dvd in my c90s, it was working great when all of the sudden I could read discs anymore, I did the lower and upper reg thing, uninstalled the drivers, uninstalled all dvd/cd related programs, all in different orders. I thought maybe I would clean the lens, not thinking at the time, I put my lens cleaner disc in, and it starts up in WMP.....wait what?.....ya so apparnetly 2 weeks of me un-installing/re-installing stuff might have just been faulty discs. So i tried them on 3 other comps I have, all of which see it perfectly and such. So i thought about it and decided it must be that its only reading my dvds, not my cds. Which is very frustrating to me. So I want to know if anyone else has this problem, or has fixed it. I really hope my cd lazer didnt burn out :( My 1-year warranty just passed about a month ago so..... Also, suggestions on a quality replacement??? maybe bluray/hd support?

    Thanks, Tyler

These Matsh!ta drives are known to go like this... either they read CDs and no longer DVDs, or now, it seems, the other way around. I think they have different LASERs for the two types of media, so it makes sense.

It's not difficult to replace it, you need a slim DVD drive. There are many threads around discussing it, you need to make sure that the bezel and fascia fit into the proper screw and tab holes of the new drive. Look for the brands Nec, Optiarc, they've been recommended to me.
