    c90 multiplier?

    I noticed my multipliers seem....extremely off, I'm using the 7/12/07 or something bios.

    I thought the e6700 has a x10 multipler? Why do I see x6? Plugged in laptop, running standard mode.

    edit: I understand speedstep is involved, if I were to disable it in the bios would it affect my stability and/or is there any benefit?
    Also does anyone have the PLL info? This is what I got when I grabbed it from CPUCool: "$FF $FF $7F $F6 $00 $69 $41 $28 $00 $04 $00 $00 $00 $20 $AA $33 $CE $00 $0C "

    I'm not sure if thats ansi or hex...I couldn't really convert it

    pretty sure you cant water cool a laptop and if you did... its a waste of time and thats alot of liquid and electricity sitting in your lap.

    still kinda new with my c90... but i do hate that the bios doesnt let you have more control... but the e6700 does have a x10 multiplier... not sure how to change the multiplier but i am interested in knowing an answer to this

    If you press F2, you can go into bios. Speedstep changes the multi downward @ low usage and back up @ high usage. Or so it's intent is (I have no idea).

    I am exploring the water cooling idea since the laptop is stationary for me, it does not sit in my lap almost ever. I use it for lans, presentations, and desktop work @ home. It broadcasts to my tv and I have a wireless keyboard/mouse when I'm not using my gaming combo.

    However, it'd be a possible fun learning process if people think it can be done...plus water cooling is intended for small spaces if I understood correctly, so it might be viable (just handcrafted)...thus why I asked.

    well the problem (for portable at least) would be that the tubing would have to be very small... in which case not as much solution can get through lowering the effect of water cooling... it could probably only get up to 3/8in... no where near most desktops that use at least 1/2in.... its viable IF it is a desktop solution... just take off the turbo gear and run the tubing out wear the fans should be... but you would need to find a lga775 w/c socket that would be horizontal not vertical

    how much are w/c's and whatnot? and how well would the cooling work with a 3/8 incher? Isn't it not just the tube size but also the heatsink size?

    Basically: if I were to do this, would it even theoretically work well at all?
    I understand turbocooling is much better than most laptops ever do but still.

    Its just fine it shows x6 because your not under load, soon as you run a program that needs the power the multi goes up.

    Use cpu-z and a program like wprime.

    soon as you run wprime you will see the multi change instantly to the full value.

    3/8in tubing is pretty good for low o/c's, what i meant about the heatsink was that the tube generally comes straight down onto the chip... creating a hight problem that wouldnt work in a laptop. you would need to find a heat sink that would come from the side and still work well cooling wise. it might work well but it would be a very complicated design and really custom.

    so...2 questions remain, is there any PLL that will work with cPUFSB for asus?

    and also, what other options do we have other than cooling pads/etc, TX?

    Are there places holes can be made that won't add excess risk of dust? Can the fans in the turbocool thing be replaced with higher power/other brand ones?

    as the fans are really small, i have never seen any this small before lol, im not sure... but these already get up to almsot 5000rpm... i know when i was in the bios the other day i think i was able to adjust fan speed. so you might check

    but other than the cooling pads i dont think you are gonna have much luck keeping it cooler. i would say that laptop components are designed to handle heat better than desktop components. but out processor is a desktop chip lol

    o but you might want to buy some thermal paste and that will definately drop your temps about 5-7 degrees... Arctic Cooling Arctic Silver 5 is very good or tuniq TX-2! not TX-1 not TX-1... but the TX-2 does not perform quite as well as AS5 but it is a little bit cheaper if that is important

    I actually got mine with AS5 :) also have a cooling pad and good ventilation. But I would love to be able to safely OC our C90's for supreme commander when it becomes 5v5 or 10v10.

    Current CPUCOOL: (after having played some battlefield 2142 and now web browsing): cores @ 47/51C GC @ 71-73C

    Speedfan: - 47 HD/51 cpus & " Temp1"

    I wonder if we could talk Ken/Gentech into making like super-ventilation/heat dissipation laptop case mods. I can imagine lots of laptop makers might want that :) aka desktop style custom cases.

    those are actually really good temps for a laptop! and prob about as low as its gonna get for now

    mine was running at like 73 under load with the stock paste... i havent gotten around to messing with my internals since i built it

    I have: Arctic Silver 5 + Targus Chill-Pad thing or something (the one thats actually smaller than 15.4 laptops lol)...the pad has studs to lift up the laptop and itself for ventilation and since the fans aren't over the laptop if you sit it flat, I just move the laptop back (so that the front of the chill pad sticks out + fans are over the vents).

    I think I've seen it hit 60-62 in gaming, but I still would love to get it down to desktop cool levels and really push the OC. I just wish there were more options, but I'll talk to ken @ gentech
