    c90s and uninstalling laptopvideo2go drivers big problem

    Hi everyone,

    I finally decided to bite the bullet and install a driver from laptopvideo2go.

    After doing some research I decided that 169.01 was the best place to start. So I installed it using setup.exe no problems at all, played a couple of games of Fifa09 and it seemed ok, however, for some reason the game would randomly lose frame rates.

    So, I thought the best thing to do would be to uninstall them and run driver sweeper, as per the posts I looked at over at laptopvideo2go. This was a process I had done many many times on XP so wasn't to phased by it.

    So, I went about what I thought was the correct way, in Vista (normal mode) went to add/remove and selected the Nvidia Drivers (nTune was still there but im guessing this doesn't matter) and hit unistall. Everything seemed normal, the screen flashed black once and went back to the base res (I guess 800x600)

    Then things went bad! The screen went black again but this time it came back completely corrupt with what looked like unicode I guess. I left it for a bit, but decided I would restart it and assume it had uninstalled. When I tried to power back on the machine, nothing, the lights came on but no fans. At this point I didn't really no what to do, however, for some reason I unplugged the power cord and it started to boot. I tried to get into Safe Mode, but the machine would hang on crcdisk.sys, so I thought I would try and see if it would boot normally. It ran a disk check which ended up just looping while trying to add a file in the very last stage.

    I this point I restarted, went back into the boot menu, and most of it seemed to be missing (last good config, vga boot, boot logging etc). I was able to force last known good config, by restarting the machine while the windows load bar was scrolling (not good i know!) and its working again, with the 169 drivers still installed although I can no longer roll back to the originals .

    After running disk check Safe Mode seems to run as normal. So the question, what do I do now? Did I do something wrong? Should I try uninstalling the drivers again?

    Go back to the last restore point you can. Download the next drivers you are going to test. Reboot into safe mode and go to device manager, uninstall your 169 drivers and restart the computer. All it to boot up but cancel any dialog that does not go away asking about installing your video card. Install the drivers and reboot. Should be ok after that.

    one question though, what is the reason for going back to a restore point? As the computer seems to be running again, is it just to go back to the original drivers from the disk?

    O no, I was just affirming restoring. If you are at a point right now where you can use it, start from there. I just wasn't sure if you finalized the restore, or just found it could be done to a point (ie. the whole restore log wasn't corrupted).

    yep, its all working as per normal again.

    One thing though, is there any difference in uninstalling video drivers under safe mode as opposed to normal mode? Every guide I have read says to do it in normal then restart in safe mode to do the driver clean.

    I do not know the answer to the above question, but I think that (assuming the process works well), uninstalling in normal mode and then running driver cleaner should obtain at least as good results as uninstalling in safe mode.

    This could also have been a hardware glitch where the bad driver uninstall was only a trigger.
