How do i hook it up so all the speakers work? Right now for room purposes i just have the two front right and left speakers and the center hooked up but the center isnt putting out any sound. I changed the speaker configuration in control panel to 5.1. On the Asus support site it says the c90s has an s/pdif port.. can anyone show me a picture of this because im not seeing it. Unless its a combo port from the headphone jack, but even still, not all my speakers are getting sound. What adapter do i need to buy? Can it be picked up locally such as Walmart? I'd really like to get this working tonight and not have to order something online and wait for shipping. Im running Windows XP Pro 32bit and i have the updated audio drivers.
I already did a search on this but all the threads i found dealt with different laptops so i thought id make one for the c90s, as there may be a difference.

so your saying buy the ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook card for 100 dollars and an optical cable?
-
I don't recommend that card (for reasons stated in the thread linked by hmmmmm (how many Ms?
)
There is SPDIF output, combo with headphone output. There are multiple threads on the type of adapter that you need for that one, it's called I think a mini-TOSLINK adapter (I have never used optical output so I don't know these things). -
i'm saying that the c90s doesn't support 5.1 speakers (if you read to the bottom of the 1st page of the link i sent) unless you get a express sound card that does support 5.1 or a usb one

If the OP goes the external way, I would perhaps suggest something mid-range like the Turtle Beach SRM.
-
ok so buy this:

for 4 dollars?
or buy the Turtle Beach SRM for 65?

Please wait for further advice from C90 owners before making a purchase.

Kettchxxii I'd thought about doing what you've done (basically) for a long time....good post. ('bout time you registered btw

It honestly is the nicest home theater setup I have ever had. projector + 5.1 sound running from two cords from the laptop. Now If I could get a Wiimote charging dock and figure out some way to make it connect on startup I would be a very happy man. 3 remotes, and no entertainment center.... whats not to love.
Edit: Ohh yeah, it also doesnt hurt to have a Synology 407e NAS unit with 4 500 gb drives running a raid 5 as a content server. Cant wait to throw terabyte drives in there some day. -
you peoples with your 5.1 sounds. MY surround sound is done the manly way. RCA audio wires spliced onto an ethernet cord to make em longer and 4 splitters to go to each set of speakers. Thats 8 speakers plus 1 subwoofer. 8+1 = 9, and 9 is the most intense number. You know why 9 is the most intense number? Because there are 9 guys in slipknot. HA. I win. //end soda-induced rant

you mean there are 8.1 guys in slipknot right?
-
no. YOUR WRONG! LEAVE ME ALONE!!! //end soda+triscut rant
