    Is it still under warranty?

something like that sounds hardware related and cant be fixed, so sending it out for repair sounds like the only option.

your sure your shutting it down and not putting it into hibernate or something right?

If you press and hold the power button to turn it off, can you boot right back up without doing the battery thing?

Have you tried resetting the BIOS to factory defaults?

If you take the battery out and turn it on, does the same thing happen after you subsequently shut it down and try to power back on? That would rule out the battery at least.

If you find that the battery is the problem, you could try recalibrating your battery from the BIOS.

Maybe your AC adapter is the culprit... edit: does the same thing happen if you have the AC unplugged and shut down? If you're running from battery power only and have this problem obviously that rules out the AC adapter too... so that would point to a hardware problem as ViciousXUSMC said. It's best to rule out everything else, so also make sure you are on the latest BIOS version. You can find updates at: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

That's about all I can think of... good luck!

Sorry I couldn't help... but at least you've pretty much ruled out all the obvious stuff. It's probably a hardware problem, like a component on the motherboard failing. But it's probably not a huge deal as long as it doesn't annoy you too much. Again, best of luck.
