My c90s went into sleep mode. I hit the power button to bring it out of sleep... the hard drive did some thrashing, but the screen didn't come back to life. I hit function f7 and f8 to see if that would bring it back, no luck there. I power down. When I power back up, I get some HD action, but no hint of a backlight. No ASUS splash. I hook up a monitor and try to get something via VGA or HDMI, but nothing pops up when I reboot.
So, how do I get something to work? Is this a monitor or a nvidia module problem?
Thanks.

If an external monitor is not working then it is most likely a gpu issue.

You might also try the No-POST checklist in my Tips and Tricks (although the computer does post). Maybe that will bring the GPU back to life. But I doubt it.

I only tried the removing power/peripherals technique. Didn't work. I'll wait until I hear from my retailer before trying anything more than that. Naturally this happened on a Friday. Thanks for the help.

Same hapenned to me quite a few times. It's always been a loose CPU for me. Remove the CPU and re-install it.

Yeah, a loose / intermittently working CPU would mean that, when the CPU is not working, the computer doesn't do anything. HDD activity without image suggests GPU.
Or maybe JCMS meant "GPU"?
But by all means, do try it. Stranger things have happened.. -
Nope I still get HDD activity. Last time I was sure my GPU was dead. I tried that quite a few times, didn't work. I even RMAed and Asus called me to ask what was the problem because they hadn't found any. (I only had RMAed GPU & barebone so they put their stuff in to test it, it worked right away.)

I just reseated the GPU/CPU/memory... still no backlight. It was worth a shot.
