wondering if a reseller can upgrade the w2jb screen to wsxga for me at a reasonable cost.. however would the task be easy enough to be perfect

Honestly - if the price is too high, but you like the notebook otherwise, just get it. You'll be surprised how little difference that makes given the overall quality of the display.
I know it's a hot button topic, but save for artists or afficianados, I bet it would be a great monitor for day to day use. -

thanks for the input undertwo, the w2jc is way too much ... however i was hoping i could pay like an extra 150 or so to get the complete package...

Two things.....
1. Yes, we could do that, but it's going to cost you about $300-350.
2. You're going to void your warranty with Asus
3. I do like the new higher brightness backlight on the WXGA+ model and if I could get that in WSXGA+, I'd surely take it.... I liked the old W2v screens, but some said they wished it were brighter...... so you're going to have a slightly dimmer screen....
I'd still take the higher res any day of the week though. The big thing is that we're still trying to get the next shipment in WSXGA+ in the higher brightness... which would make you feel like an idiot a month from now..... so I'd rather tell you to hold out a little longer if you can. -

PRO... whats your chances on that shipment... at least 50-50 ?? i'd really like to know.
also i was wondering why u started to sell the w2jb's now... especially since u wanted to boycott .. and now since theres a possibility of getting what we want -

It won't be the W2jb, but it will still be at least the W2j..... the following letters indicate changes between models.... but it's the same thing as far as the consumer sees....
We did boycott them. We dropped a $300k order which they didn't like to get stuck with and simply dropped all of our orders for them. After a while, Asus said these are here and nothing new is coming in until these are gone. With the drop in price and after seeing the screen...... it's worth what it's selling for and we agreed to do it with conditions..... how many to stock, and our most important.... making a big note of the resolution just so no one can be mistaken....... I wouldn't use it for what I do, but it's still a great system. We got our point across when we cancelled our order and had all of the advanced order customers call up the product manager directly to voice their opinion.... -

The screen itself can be easily modded with any other 17" panel. A trained monkey can actually do it with some minor scrapes. The problem is the data cable. You will need the data cable from the old w2 as the new cable for some reason does not quite work right with any other screen. Its weird like that. I am n ot exactly sure but i belive they cab make the cables downward compatible. In other words. You can swapp a lower res screen into higher res screen without a problem ususally though i have seen this fail but more often you will have problems swapping a hi res for a low res. Asus does have hi res cables for the w2v but we dont sell the w2j and prolly never will
