    hi there everyone!

well, i want to buy a laptop and i've got a budget limited to upto 400GBP. i came across this Asus X50R-AP391C which particularly caught my eye. To be honest, i'd never heard of Asus before (yes, i'm not very aware of the computing world :D ) so i wasn't sure at first but from what i've found out about them they seem to be like a great laptop manufacturer aswell as all the other stuff they do.

so, my question is about this laptop:
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139074
from ebuyer, it costs 399.99GBP, which is exactly my budget and the specs are great - so, what can you guys tell me about this particular laptop? my priorities are getting a reliable (i.e. doesn't breakdown), fast and long-lasting laptop (i'm not planning to change it in the next few years)...so, will this laptop fill the bill? and is it good value for money? roughly, how many years do you think it will last without deteriorating much?

if you were a student and in my position, would you buy this? or would you look elsewhere for even beter value for money?

    thanks in advance...

    400.00 GBP=801.870 CAD

Well I wouldn't say that guy is fast. But it does have 2GB of memory and a big hard drive, plenty of space and power for a student with lots of music.
Unless your in a course that will be using graphically intense software, like an engineering or arts or animation course etc, then you should be okay.

Don't expect to play any new games on it either, due to the integrated card and old processor.

Asus generally makes good, quality laptops, but I am unsure of that specific model. Also, you should consider the battery life before buying, unfortunately I also don't know the specifics for battery life for that model.

EDIT: oh yeah forgot to mention. You should be able to get a bit better laptop for the price. I know for a fact that big name laptop makers like Dell and HP at least get you a faster processor for around that price. At least here in Canada I know you can.

You should check out an ASUS F3K....+50 USD, but gets a better proc and dedicated graphics.

thanks for that mate - took your advice on board and found this HP which i'm asking about now.

it's got a faster processor but less memory and a smaller hard dirve. but the smaller hard drive isn't a problem at all because the 120GB the HP provides is very sufficient. in terms of the memory, well, the 1GB the HP provides is still good especially because i won't be using graphically intense software and anyway, if needs be, i can always upgrade it to 2GB...so, what do you think?

I would take Acer, for the money you give, you get exellent specs. Acer's quality is not as good as Asus, but the specs are great! You can get a Acer with 8600M GT for that money. My first lappy was acer - it was great
