one other thing... does the w2 series come with a glossy screen ?
-
does the W2JC "c" stand for carbon fibre??..... nah just kidding, must be a typo, where did you see that price?
-
W2Jc has the higher res LCD, but a grand more is ridiculous...
There was only a $100USD price difference when the W2Jb replaced the anticipated W2Jc in the US... -
Maybe you should shop around...I know the UK is always more expensive...BUT for a grand you could take a trip over here to france and pick up the w2 plus a few nice bottles of vin, and still comeout ahead!
Here is a list of W2jc prices over here for comparison. The run from about 2300-2600 euro!

I can't see the W2JB at this site http://www.asuslaptop.co.uk/products.php?cat=44 but the W2JC is only a little more expensive than the W2V models.

Cinquième-avenue.com ASUS W2JC-U009H - Livraison par Chronopost - Sécurisé par Fianet et Paybox... 2.389,90 € 0,00 € 2.389,90 € En stock
thats the cheapest price at underpantman's suggested site which is about 3060 USD, this price is pretty decent...
at asuslaptop.co.uk the price is £1713.15 (anyone know which currencies each of these are as i dunno about £ and €.. but that is 3216 in USD.. so its pretty frikkin bank compared to the US market im assuming unless im calculating that wrong though..
so people can get the w2jb with wxga over here for about 2300 USD... so here we have a 700-900 increase minimum between the us and uk markets... is this how it is... cause these numbers do sound a little fishy so im wondering if im calculating everything right or if theres something im not taking into account.... any ideas guys ? -
Cheapest price in the UK...

thanks underpantman.. however i dont know what currency this is -
that price is more or less what the resellers here in the UK are selling for..check out the links i pasted above.. and u will have to add the costs of travelling etc if u buy from somewhere other than the UK..

whoops i meant at laptopsdirect, it shows the vc and puts up a dead link to the jc
-
hmm..well thats a typo...if u closely look at it..its got all the W2Jc specs and everything..so im pretty sure its that one.. but i DO NOT recommend laptop direct.. crappy customer service...
-
I bought a W2 today....called round a few suppliers to check specs and prices. Most had some sort of mistake in their advertised spec for a W2JC and were unable to 100% confirm the info or answer simple questions....
Laptops Direct told me that the spec for this machine on their site was 100% correct (120GB/WXGA+??) and if I had a problem with it then take it up with Asus.....that cost 'em the sale.
The supplier with at least the correct spec for this machine and who also had someone on the phone with half a brain won my custom today...
Now happily waiting for the proof in the pudding! -

u bought the wsxga w2? from where and how much
-
2. Over $3,000 USD. WSXGA isn't even worth $100 more IMO. You also wouldn't be able to use the W2JC in Media Center. -
indefuseable chronic Notebook Consultant
what do u mean media center... can u go into this some more and explain... is it hardware software, what features apply with it, why wont it work, disadvantages.. etc
is it highly possible or widely offered to have a reseller upgrade teh screen for a w2jb ? if so... is it easy enough for them to do a clean and perfect job on it ? -
-
indefuseable chronic Notebook Consultant
so by the jc having digital for the media center tv tuner... than are u saying it wouldnt work with the US cable tv (ie comcast) outlet cords ?
-

indefuseable chronic Notebook Consultant
husky thanks, where did you get your jb from and for how much ?
find any better deals on it ? i think imma just go ahead and get the jb... but question: u think its highly feasible to find a reseller that can upgrade my screen to wsxga for a decent price and still do it so that its a clean and perfect job ? -
You could upgrade the screen yourself... it's not like it's hard... but you'd have to find one for a decent price first. -
The prices I listed were in Euro...which is about the same as USD (1euro=1.3usd). In the uk I expect that everything is in pounds....which is worth about 2X more than the USD.
to convert currency I use XE.

I just bought the w2jc from the uk and had it shipped over; with shipping it cost me roughly 3000 us- the only difference is the screen and the hybrid tuner and of course 2 years global warranty-you also get a free case and wireless mouse but these are not costly;you can watch cable in the us and record tv with asus's own software- not as neat as media center but acceptable. Unless you are absoloutely desperate for the wsxga screen i would say buy it in the us; for me i discounted the screen and the extra warranty as being worth 300 usd and felt that the additional 300 dollars premium was worthwhile-personal choice;most of this is ofcourse due to the ridiculous exchange rate which is normally around 1.7

can someone tell me why the w2jc in the uk is a grand more than the w2jb
