    Hi All,

First off, I realize I'm going to be crucified for posting this, but I feel like it needs to be said. We all know that Justin and Eddie provide an amazing service to us all here, and I, along with many many others are truly grateful. However, we as consumers need to realize that they are dealers, and have their own interests which may not be congruent with ours.

Concerning new laptop releases, Justin mentioned in the Z70V refresh thread:

"This is going to be a more expensive machine and we still don't know the release date....... but it was confirmed over a month ago"

I posted less than a month ago asking if an X600 to X700 upgrade was possible for the Z70V, and I was told that I was unlikely because of size and heat issues. Now it seems to be exactly what is being predicted to be released come August. If the resellers had mentioned that an X700 version was coming out when I had asked, can you imagine what would have happened to the business of selling the current version of the Z70V? Sales would definitely have been weakened on anticipation of the new version coming out.

So, to conclude, I'm not digging at Justin or Eddie, because they're both stand-up guys and we all owe them for one thing or another that has been incredibly helpful to us. I just urge caution when deciding on new purchases because these new revelations came from a fairly inocuous post from someone on notebookforums, and although the resellers are pretty good about announcing things, they didn't mention this to us potential Z70V buyers. Not that I blame them, mind you, but its just something to think about.

It's not just the z70v, but everything technology related in general. Anything new that comes out will only have a week or two, maybe less of fame. It's always been like that, and always will be as technology advances at a rate that's pretty unbelievable.

So buy it when we really need it, thats the thing...

When I buy my notebook(In a few weeks hopefully..), that model will be pretty old, but I know what I'll need it for, and I know its unfortunately not upgradeable, but for the next few years, It'll still do with Word, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc., but one really has to ask themselves, is it overkill for your current needs?

On the z70v, I'm pretty sure the battery life won't be as amazing as it is with the x600, so the trade off is there, sacrifice one for another.

Thus after buying any technology, always run away, hide under a rock and not look at any new technology/prices for a while, cos everything's gonna drop!

Yea if you're waiting for the latest and greatest than just keep waiting.

That's how the computer and technology industry works. If they released a product that never needed to be upgraded or replaced they would be fools for doing so. They got us right where they want us now.

I find the best strategy is to buy the technology that is just a step below the top of the line. You get close to cutting edge, but you don't pay the premium. For example when you look at processors there is always a huge price jump between the top of the line and the one below it.

    On W3V - sweet

This response is completely in general because it's not the first time someone has said something like this:

I'm under an NDA and there are rules I must follow. Until someone else leaks it online, which they did, I can't talk about it. It's not a surprise that EVENTUALLY it would happen.. being 3-4-5 months away from when it was mentioned to when it'll happen is an eterity in this business. People started bringing it up before the Z70v came out.... and at that point it wasn't even considered.

Asus expressed the interested of putting an x700 in the Z70 a month ago (this is the "confirmed" that they want to do it) ........ It wasn't expected for another quarter at least and it's going to be in a different price bracket.... but man... they talk about many things that are going to happen in the next year and if I mentioned them before they clear me, I'll stop hearing about them..... so I'm sorry, but being in on future stuff like that is my little high and I wouldn't trade that for anything......

As of this week, it looks like the the graphics cards or something is getting smaller and the ability is there..... it's just a matter of price, size and $$$$. However Asus still hasn't allowed release of this except it appeared online as a "confirmation" and all I can do is confrim that confirmation without leaking anything else..... but this isn't like the discovery of a hidden plantet....it's going to happen.. it's just that at the time, it was IMPOSSIBLE.

So things do change and with all due respect....... I'm going to continue to post up to date information and release whatever I'm supposed to and if anyone else doesn't like it, go find another forum. I never force anyone into buying anything and if anything I'm quite the opposite.. So as coriolis said... you buy what you want when you need it... it's called free will and everybody's got it. I'm not going to feel bad about someone getting a computer based on the knowledge they're allowed to have. You're not paying me, I'm not here to give out information that I'm privied to....... Not even all of the dealers are privied to the information I get sometimes...... so I can only do so much....... You're going to find more information on this forum than anywhere else in the world and it's because of the groupd of people that are here.

As a final few words..... if you called me on the phone and said "I really want the z70 series but I want an x700". I'd say, "well the Z70v is all that's out and it has a 64mb x600". Then if you told me, well I can wait till the fall". I'd tell you, "well hold on as long as you can because by then there might be something out that would better suit your needs". If then you said, "well I NEED it by the first week of August" ....... I have no choice but respond and tell you " I can't promise anything". Iin my head of possible ETAs, today we're looking at mid-august..... it could be early, but one thing I've learned in this business is to probably add a month to official ETAs.... something about the Taiwanese not being good judges of time......

I lied... This will be the last thing........ We have NO idea what they are doing to this system to make an z700 fit. All I know is besides hearing that "they're working on making it fit" and " apparently something got smaller" ... I have no idea what they are doing to make this happen. If they are using the SAME EXACT motherbaord and somehow the graphics card shrunk...... this is something that there isa good possibility could be an upgradable item. If they moves the motherboard around and shrunk that to make it fit.... then you're still not out of luck... you could by the new motherbaord and graphics card...... but that's life.... but technically you could still do it (it just might be out of your price range) ........... So it's not like a system like the Z70v came out and someone said well i need something just like it but lighter and thinner........... and I knew in a week the V6v was coming out or something...... Eventually we all know something like that would be possible, but it's a timing thing.

What I'd like to know is who "confirmed" this for those guys and who brought the information..

    Thanks,
    Justin

I cant disagree or agree here. I dont like to confirm or unconfirm what i hear from asus directly. They know less then we do sometimes. The x600 should be the same form factor as the x700. This is not even a modular/removable card much to my surprise. Originally i though it wouold be. You dont have to confirm these things with asus. Its just a natural order of things. There are many laptops now with x700. If asus wants to sell they must compete. This was the case with the 9600/9700. It does not take an official confirmation to know the x700 will come out in the z70v. They cant use the 6600 in it becuase they will have to change the whole chasis. They can easily use the x700 in the current chasis. This is not a shock or a surprise. This was talked about a while ago. Expect better video cards from asus. I do have to respectively disagree with the "fact" that x700 is way better then x600. Based on what i ve seen first hand in cleve they are not at all. Hope i am wrong. I dont mind being wrong. I am going on what i see, feel and learn from picking appart asus product. Nothing i say here comes from asus. I learned not to put what they tell me in a public forum. Its usually off. Perhaps Justins sales rep knows more then mine. I go by what i see not what i hear. For an official release date on the x700 Justin would be the one to ask. I dont know and i dont want to know. I would not give any official dates to anyone.

Official dates or not, until Asus releases an official ETA, it's not even worth talking about..... becasue an official ETA is just that, a good estimate.

I see and hear about new things before all of you and that should be expected... Again, not everything is something I can discuss but that's not really the issue here. The issue is more like those dealers who try to sell old stuff like the M5np when the Z33a is either instock or coming in next week and they flat out say they have no idea what you're talking about when you ask them point blank.... that seems to be the premise that is behind the original post or at least that's what I feel....... There is a huge difference between the two... HUGE.

Justin - I just wanted to say "thanks" for what you do tell us. If it weren't for you and your updates, I would have bought the Z71A a few months ago instead of waiting for the Z63A.

Now, comparing what I got, with what I almost bought, you can understand that I most sincerely do mean that "thank you"!
