    Hello! I'm new here.

I have Asus A42JZ. Please see specs here. Mine has the P6200 processor. I'm upgrading it to i5-430M, I believe it's compatible since both processors were listed there.

My question mainly is how should I gain access to the processor of my laptop? I checked the back of the laptop and I could not find an easy way there to access the processor. The back only provide easy access to the memory and HD. I suspect the easiest way is going to be by removing the keyboard. I have no problem removing the keyboard, I just need some inputs if it's the proper way to access the processor for this laptop. I have already tried removing all the screws at the back of the laptop and even then I still can't figure out how to remove the back cover. Anyone who have experience opening laptop with this series, or closely the same series, I really appreciate any inputs.

    Thanks!

Did you mean A42JZ processor is soldered onto the motherboard or you are generally speaking that CPUs in laptops are soldered onto the motherboard? I don't think all laptops have their CPUs soldered onto the motherboard...

i am speaking generally, i am not sure about A42JZ. If there is no hatch on the bottom of the laptop, then i think you can access the CPU/GPU from the keyboard. i think there are little clips like things you can push back at the upper edges of the keyboard.

i was watching a asus take apart the other day, but i cant seem to find it right now. I personally have a F8sp which has a hatch at the bottom for CPU/GPU

It shouldn't be soldered on the mobo. Though taking it apart isn't hard. Just get the keyboard up through 4 small latch, and then take out all the screws from the bottom, then the 1 or 2 mobo screws that hold it down. And all the port plugs (keyboard, mousepad, speakers, etc)
My friend has a N82JQ, the profile look almost identical. and I had taken that apart. the processor was on a socket, not soldered.

    Thanks QR-Vic!

I actually found this as a guide. Not exactly the same model but they are pretty much the same layout inside.
