I have the choice for this laptop between a 80GB 7200rpm and a 100GB 5400 rpm
what is the advantage of a 7200 rpm HD?
I currently have a laptop with a 40GB 5400 rpm. Will I notice?
As I am freakish about fan-noise and heated palmrests what would you advise me??????
Any owners that can advise me![]()

The load times will be faster on the 7200. As for the heat, it's about the same...
The V6va will get warm either way though. -

Seagate 7200rpm drives have about the same heat and battery life of Hitachi 5400rpm drives......... go with the size you can afford, but for the difference between 80 and 100 ---- consider the cost difference over a few years and the amount of space you could fill in 3-4 maybe even 5 years......

coriolis you say the V6Va is a "hot" laptop
Does this apply for all Asus laptops -

don't even bring that word into this conversation... it's completely bogus.......... the V6va is under an inch thick, but it has a 128mb ATI x700 graphics card and you want to put a 7200rpm hard drive in it..... the palmrest is aluminum (which conducts heat)...... it's going to get warm and any performance system is going to get warm... but don't ever say "hot".......

I dont think the palm rest of the v6va gets hot it gets warm above the keyboard where you dont touch and the bottum but the palm rest stays cool. and again its really not bad.
And as you said if you are freakish about fan noise and heat dont get any compact laptop. because well smaller space less cooling. The only way i see a v6va getting pretty hot is if you set it down on your bed or pillow for a while then im sure it will get hot. But its meant to be used on a desk like any notebook. -
so with other words:
don't worry and just buy the thing?
BTW: sorry about mentioning hot.... -
It gets warm at most.
I'd get the 7k80. I find 7200rpm's pretty worth it in the long term. -
Dont be sorry about mentioning hot its a valid question.

I use hitachi 60g 7200 rpm and I think it's a worthy investment. The right palmrest and the bottom of the V6Va does become warm after extended use, but I still can have it comfortably on my lap.

.. 60gb/7200rpm Hitachi's run a LOT hotter than the Seagates.... I used the Hitachi for almost two years and the Seagate 7200rpm is a world of difference.

Gotta love Seagate...
