if i want, does just manually unistallin the bloatware still quite effective?

Go here, put in your notebook type and download the drivers. -
The drivers are usually pretty self-explanatory. Get all the ones you know you need (chipset, ethernet, video, audio, wireless, express card, firewire, bluetooth - and basically any I/O that is listed in the sales features etc).
At that stage your laptop is fully functional hardware-wise, but you may be missing a few features like battery preservation modes and other keyboard functions unique to the laptop. These drivers will be in the "Utilities" section of the drivers menu.
To avoid bloatware, just do things a step at a time and check the "add and remove software" section of the control panel after each install and just remove anything you think is bloatware. -
A Bloatware list is in my Vista guide (check sig).
