Those of you with a single jack for both headphone and mic, are you able to get earphone mics to work?
I used a cheapo and a more expensive Klipsch (s3 I think) earphones with mics on my N550 and I cannot get the mic to work in chat apps such as Skype. I tried using the W8 sound recorder and it records very faintly. I also don't see a separate mic entry in the windows sound devices area; it's as if the mic is an extension of the built-in mic.
I plugged in my headphones without built-in mic and I got no mic capabilities altogether; I had to unplug the headphones to use the mic. Anyone able to get the internal mic to work while headphones (especially the ones with built-in mic) are plugged in?

You should be able to set the internal mic as the default after you connect the headphones in Recording devices. Since your Klipsch phones' mic picked up something faintly when testing in Win 8, you may need to adjust the mic gain. I owned the S4i set and the mic worked quite well - at least on the phone. Does your mic work on other devices?

I have the Asus N550JV. In my recording devices, I only see the default option even when the earphones are plugged in.
Yes, the earphone mic works with my Android phone. -

So it is one function at a time.
Headphone output/microphone input combo jack port.
This port allows you to connect your Notebook PC to amplified speakers or headphones. You can also use this port to connect your Notebook PC to an external microphone.
