Is there a way to reconfigure the hot buttons to launch firefox instead of IE? I just got a G1S and I'm trying to set it up to be as useful as possible. Sorry if that is a really simple question, but I've always just sort of ignored the hot buttons in the past.

    Thanks for any info?

It suffices if you set firefox to be your default browser.

Tools/Options, enable Always check to see if FFx is the default browser on startup.

Its faster for me to click the icon in my taskbar than it is to press a button :/

Same here. But why not have the firefox as a default browser anyway? :)

    (IE sucks)

The new one isnt bad I use it equally as much as FF, somtimes pages load better in one than the other. Plus I have a x64 ie I dont have a x64 ff.

There has to be a file on the computer that tells the button what its target is, im sure it can be edited with notepad or somthing. I wish I had a G1S to help with these kind of problems.

Yeah, must be some sort of configuration but by the poor design of other ASUS applications I should say if it's not changing with the default browser change, it's quite possible it's hardcoded in an EXE or DLL.

And then you can't change it at all.

Here on my V6 the button correctly opens whatever browser I have set as default.

sure you can, .dll's can be easily edited. .exe not so much so but still posible with some 3rd party programs.

if its the later where the .exe is telling it what to do (and i really highly dobut it, its more of a exe that runs to point it at a config file where the addy is placed) then swaping the ie and ff around would work. note just "primary browser" but location and file names :p

Id love to dig into this im sure I can get a solution rather fast but with no resorces Im at a loss.

Maybe the C90 will work the same way??? if it does im sure I can help you then when I get one.

You can also easliy configure a hot fix by replacing your IE.exe with a new one that is a bridge. The new IE.exe will just be a program that opens FF.exe

Yeah, but those are all "advanced solutions" shall we say, and I think it's overkill for such a small matter. :)

^^ well, for me and you its a small matter for him it may be the world!!!

I learn not to put faith in hot buttons soon as you need them the most they fail you lol.

I used to love my volume up/down buttons on my keyboard, but certian games like trackmania nations i have to disable them to get the keyboard to function because it takes up a slot in my devices and it causes a conflict.

It wasn't anything all that important. Just seems that since there is an internet browser launching button it should be set for my browser of choice. Which is most decidedly not IE. =) I will probably contact Asus in the next day or two and if they get back to me with a solution I will post it.

Ok, found a solution to this. In addition to setting your default browser to Firefox you also need to set program access and computer defaults. This can be found in the Control Panel > Programs > default Programs > Set Program Access and Computer Defaults.

Once into there U went with the custom settings and changed the Cooose a default web browser to use my current web browser.

You can also just do the non-microsoft and it will set all hot launch buttons to the non-microsoft equivilant, but I like the custom settings as I can then pick the program I want.

    Hope this helps,

    Rhynn

I really wish Asus would include a utility for that, but officially there isn't. You will have to wait for a hack, if there ever is one, to configure the media keys.

It appears that you can change the media player launched by following what rhynn posted.

It's not really the launching of the media player that is important, it's more just using the bottom buttons i.e. Play/Pause, Stop, Previous, Next to control a media player other than Windows Media Player.

The media buttons seem to only work with Windows Media Center.

It's the reverse for me, only the Play/Pause button works for media center and all the buttons work for WMP.

would you be able to configure it so if you press the internet button it would launch any application of your choice? not just a web brower, lets say a game or something?

No, when you configure it in control panel you can only choose between the browsers that you have installed. Although that would be pretty cool.

Isn't there a setting in the group policy editor for this (gpedit.msc on XP, unsure in Vista?) As long as it's a Windows option, and not an Asus-specific thing.

Usually the settings in the GPE are quite detailed and much more versatile that what you can access using the usual UI paths.
