How do I use the DVI output on my laptop to connect my LCD TV? which cable do I use?
I have another cable which is VGA to DVI, can I use it as well?
How do I output in the VGA properties?
    Thanks for your help!

Your notebook has a DVI connector, which you can use. To use it, you need to have a DVI male to male cable. The other cable you can use is a VGA to VGA cable. You will need a male to male cable for that, too. I'm not sure if the VGA to DVI cable you have now will work, although you could givge it a try.

Would a dvi to hdmi cable be better?

No, probably not. both connection types are used for HD, so quality should be the same. Get which ever cable is cheaper. It will probably be the DVI to DVI, as some of the DVI to HDMI cables are very expensive.

IF you can go dvi to dvi - you're better off..... if the tv only has hdmi input, then you just need a converter cable, but it can be done easily.

I have heard something about DVI not having sound?

So if I hook a notebook up to a lcd hd tv and play a play a game the sound will have to come from the notebook speakers??

Yeah... DVI is a video standard.... as is VGA. HDMI, which basically only the W2pb and V1jp have (I'm not even sure there are many other notebooks in the world at this point that use full hdmi), but that carries both digital video and 8 channel digital sound.

Some tvs, and I know my dlp has this, but the asus lcd doesn't....... but the dlp has a vga in and a mini RCA (otherwise known as a headphone jack) in.... So, if you have that, you can run a male mini RCA to male min RCA from your headphone jack to the jack on your tv and the sound will go through the computer and out the tv. :)

I'm connected to a 22" LCD monitor with DVI, so your situation should be similar. Right click on the desktop and go to "Properties." Select the "Settings" tab and you should see options that let you use your LCD as a primary monitor or as a second display. Make sure your TV is on the correct input, and you also need to correct the screen resolution.

I'm just using my monitor as the primary display and set up a hotkey to quickly switch between displays whenever I need to carry around my laptop.

You can try what shlemielo has usggested, and also go to Catalyst Control Centre, and it should show you what displays are connected to the notebook. The LCD should be listed here. Right click on the icon for it, and click extend. That should work. Hope this helps.
