    hope someone can help.

I own N61VN-A1 which has both vga and hdmi sockets. The max screen resolution is 1366x768.

When I connect it to my plasma via VGA, it works fine.

But when I connect to the plasma via HDMI, although the laptop detects panasonic tv as the 2nd display, nothing shows on the tv, the screen is just black. The TV's native resolution is 1920x1080 and I think this is where the problem may be.

I have updated the laptop with the latest NVIDIA drivers, have tried to change the tv's resolution to 1366x768 (via NVIDIA control panel), but nothing comes up on the tv.

Can someone advise how can I make it work?

    thanks for the help!

    ***update***
when i set the tv's & laptop resolution (both manually via nvidia control panel) to 1280x720, hdmi works!

    now the question is:

    1. is this how it is supposed to work @ 1280x720?

    2. cant i make it work on g10's native resolution of 1920x1080 or anything higher?

    3. @1280x720, will the hdmi quality be poorer compared to VGA, which works at 1366x768?

    thanks in advance!

Try using a graphics driver from laptopvideo2go. I'm inclined to say it's a driver issue.

    hi david,

i am indeed using the latest drivers from laptopvideo2go! i have also tried using the latest official drivers from nvidia..

in your opinion, given my laptop screen resolution, should the g10 pick up the signal automatically without changing the resolution?

Usually, the laptop can detect the presence of an external monitor/TV and will change the resolution accordingly to the monitor/TV's native resolution. However you can also change the default setting by telling your laptop to use the same resolution your laptop is producing as well.

However, back to your issue, from what I gather, you're able to see the 1080p resolution option in your nivida control panel, but once that is selected you get a black screen. (correct me if I'm wrong).
If this is the case, try changing your screen's refresh rate and see if that does anything.

so this is how it happens:

    1. i turn on the tv and select HDMI mode. The screen is black.

    2. The laptop is running @ 1366x768, its highest resolution.

    3. when the laptop is connected to the tv via HDMI, the laptop flickers and comes back. the tv screen remains blank. On opening the NVIDIA control panel, I can see 2 displays - laptop @ 1366x768 and panasonic @ 1920x1080 (native). Nothing displayed on tv.

    4. I try changing the resolution in nvidia for panasonic to 1920x1090 (recommended). The difference is this setting is with 60hz. Nothing happens.

    5. I keep on trying different settings. Only combination which works is when I reduce the tv resolution in control panel to 1280x720 @ 60hz.

    hope this helps...

what display mode are you using? (single, clone, or dualview?)

Also, I'm not sure if this is related, but when i'm using my Samsung HDTV with my laptops, the refresh rate must be set at 59Hz.

it is in extended display mode.

i have realised that 1920x1080 @ 24hz works, although the picture doesnt scale to the whole tv screen. it has thick black bars on the 4 corners. i have tried changing frq to 59hz with no luck..

How about trying an older graphics driver? From experience, I've noticed that the newest drivers don't necessarily mean they work the best.
