I've tried installing the Forceware 174.74 and found out it's compatible only for nvidia's 9 series. After that i tried to install the 169.21 for vista-32 and then it said it didn't recognize any compatible drivers...
does anyone seems to know what could be the problem?

Look here. The OP has an 8600M GT and is using FW 174.74 so the driver isn't just for the 9 series.

What card do you have might I add?

EDIT: Sorry I forgot the title, haha G1s's have the 8600M GT don't they?

You have to get the modded INF from the LaptopVideo2Go forums for that specific driver. Otherwise, it doesn't support your card.

SmoothTofu, could you be more specific? Did you mean this page? If so, the latest driver is for the 169.09..

BuNsiE, thanks. I've downloaded the driver yet still it says "the NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware". I guess i'm missing something here, like where can i find the proper INF file and what should i do with it (bare in your mind that i'm not that familiar with terms from the computer world).
    BTW, yes, the G1S has a geforce 8600GT 256 GDDR3

I think what I didn't realize is that I needed to insert the separately-downloaded-inf-file into the root folder of nvidia's forceware setup. Now that I have done so, I believe that I've managed to install the 174.74

However, after I rebooted vista, windows alerts me that "windows host process (rundll32) stopped working and was closed". what?

Edit: I've re-benchmarked it after the installation, and now my G1S-B2 is ranked at 1280x1024 - 4034 3dnark06, previously ranked 3863, also at 1024x768 it is ranked at 5100 previously 4779

If it never happens again, let it go... otherwise, post back.

I'm sorry to inform that every time now i reboot vista, I get the black screen saying "windows error recovery" suggesting to "launch startup repair" but unable to do so. when i choose "start windows normally" everything works fine except this rundll32 massage, and this black screen keeps appearing every reboot. help?

I suggest going back to the stock GPU drivers... it seems that the modded drivers don't go well with your system...

Be sure to use smth like DriverCleanerPro to cleanup the driver remnants in-between uninstalling the old drivers and installing the new ones.

Just being thorough, but did you check to make sure that your card's device id is on the list of supported cards for that version of the driver?
